What myths about being an artist do you wish people would stop believing? 🎨

We asked our community this week's Question of the Week, and your responses highlighted the realities behind the creative journey.

From "It's all about talent" to "Being an artist isn't a real job" and "Artists just paint all day," your comments remind us that behind every finished piece are years of learning, persistence, business skills, resilience and hard work.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and helped make this week's discussion so insightful. 💛

Which response resonated with you the most? Or is there another myth you'd add?

Join us every Tuesday for a new Question of the Week and become part of the conversation.

Th Dread that Consumes Us - CALL FOR ART
Call: July 15 - Oct 4, 2026
Exhibition: Nov 6 - Dec 20, 2026

NO SUBMISSION FEE, $35 HANGING FEE

Guest Curated by Crystal Serino @the.artist.palmsun
Co-Curated by Jaime Ransome @jransome.curator
Hosted by Women’sWork.Art @womenswork.art

Virtual Info Session: August 21

About the Curator:
Crystal Serino (she/they) is an emerging curator, eco-artist, and craft artist living and working in the Hudson Valley. Their predominant curatorial and artistic philosophy is simple: Any human art over AI art. For this curator it is important for art to be the practice of keeping the human soul alive. After training as a curator and art handler in the Trolley Barn Gallery Youth Curator program, Serino develops exhibitions that merge reality and imagination, fear and care, and allow space for both vulnerability and cathartic performance.

Selected artists will be asked to submit a $35 acceptance fee to confirm participation. These fees help support the exhibition’s guest curator, cover basic promotion, ensuring visibility for participating artists and their work. WomensWork.Art operates as a commercial gallery that intentionally hosts community exhibitions for marginalized artists and presents with as many free programs and opportunities as it can sustainably offer. The gallery is run with deep personal commitment to community access and care; acceptance fees help make these exhibitions possible within a small, independently operated space.

Artists experiencing financial hardship may contact WomensWork.Art to request a discounted or waived acceptance fee.

The last two weeks of The Terrible Toy Fair VI runs through February 28th, 2026. A closing soireee to attend if you will. After its notorious runs at The Dollhaus and CBGB’s Gallery (2002–2007), the cult exhibition resurfaces on Broome Street at Satellite Gallery with a viciously curated selection of toys by over 70 artists that have been wholly made, mutilated, modified, destroyed, and reborn. _____________________________________

Curated by Dollhaus II, the show coincides with Toy Fair NYC and runs February 6–28, 2026________________________________

The Art on Paper exhibition concluded yesterday, marking a wonderful achievement for Perseus Gallery. We proudly represented nine talented artists, all of whom were present to share in the experience. The exhibition was a resounding success, not only in terms of the invaluable experience and enjoyment gained by our artists but also with the sale of seven incredible pieces of art. We are thrilled with how well the event was organized and are now eagerly preparing for next year’s edition.

For those artists who wish to be part of **Art on Paper 2025**, applications are open, and we welcome you to apply through Perseus Gallery.

As we move forward, our focus shifts to **Art Basel Miami** this December. We are excited to be participating in two major exhibitions—Context Art Miami and Red Dot. We invite artists to join us at **Red Dot** during this prestigious event and be a part of something extraordinary.
