This simple fantasy of mine has been years in the making. I used to love hanging off cranes, feeling as though I could pause time. Beneath my feet, the world would freeze, wrapped in stillness and silence, as I embraced the purity of a single, unbroken moment. Letting go and plunging into the void added a new layer to the experience.

All summer (2022), I searched for the perfect crane. Many came close, but none felt right. Then I found it—a crane standing tall in the middle of a field, far from the city’s noise. Quiet. Still. Untouched. It was exactly what I needed for this dream to unfold.

The night before, I slept in the crane cabin, my eyes on my exit point from my sleeping bag. Dawn greeted me with a glorious sunrise, mist cloaking the forest surrounding the site. It felt like a dream. My dream.

The air was thick with stillness. A Sunday morning in Germany, unlike any other, where everything closes, everything is quiet. People rest. Only I and lost ravers remain.

This experience exceeded all my expectations. A moment in time that is mine forever. As I landed, my whole body was hysterically shaking, a fine concoction of adrenaline, fear, and euphoria. These moments never leave you.

L’Étranger - andreaswarhier

I’m very excited to announce the release of my second photobook. A huge project comes to an end. I put more than 1000 hours into the design and layout over the course of a year. I learned a lot, had many setbacks, and the whole project was filled with ups and downs. In the end, I’m happy I pushed through :-)

I tried to create something new, something the urbex community hasn’t seen in this way. People share a lot of stories about the actual roof, the „send“ itself. But with whom are we actually sharing these adventures? Over the years, I’ve met many interesting people who, over time, became good friends. These connections are a side effect. A great side effect. We are strangers, plotting to explore an unknown city together. Saying this out loud makes it sound absurd, which it actually is. This absurd side effect of strangers becoming friends is something I wanted to show with the book „L’Étranger“ (The Stranger).

Many thanks to @optikcontrol & @cpt_olf olf for the trust and patience. The whole project took way longer than expected, but here we are! Thanks to everyone who supported me along the way, thanks to everyone who gave me feedback and helped me create the book we see today.

And last but not least, thanks to all the people I had the pleasure of meeting over the years: Without you, the book couldn’t exist. You are truly appreciated.

From strangers to friends.
I’m very pleased to present the trailer for my second book!

“ L’Étranger ” (The Stranger) is a photo book documenting the absurd passion we all share.
Urban exploration is cool, but who are we doing it with? How do these multinational relationships come about and how do we go from complete strangers to close friends?

This book attempts to understand the process of friendship and captures the journey there in photographs. It delves into the meaning of community, passion and friendship.

Publication is planned for June 20, 2024.

Thank you for your patience!!
