Reference is the difference between "beautiful animation" and "I believe that character is alive."

The best shots in "GOAT 2026" only work because animators studied basketball games, players, real motion, how each animal behaves in real life, etc.

Animators don't move characters... until Rigging Artists make it possible.

Here's why rigging is one of the most important jobs in animation.

Every animated character you've ever loved started with a Rigging Artist.
Before an animator can bring a character to life, someone has to build the digital skeleton that makes every walk, jump, smile, and expression possible.

In this clip from our GOAT (2026) reaction, I explain what a Rigging Artist does and why they're one of the most important people in the animation pipeline.

Great animators are secretly good actors.

Before bringing a character to life, animators often act out the scene themselves, using the recorded voice-over as a guide to capture believable expressions, timing, and emotion. From there, they block out the performance, refine the motion using the Graph Editor (splining), and finish with detailed facial animation and lip-sync.

That's how animated characters go from feeling robotic to feeling alive.

This is one of the many animation techniques we discussed in our GOAT (2026) reaction and breakdown.

Follow our page for more insights into 3D, Animation, VFX, and Filmmaking.

Want to master the complete animation and VFX pipeline? Join MI3 (Medalverse Institute of 3D), where we train the next generation of industry-ready 3D artists, animators, and VFX professionals.

💬 Were you surprised that animators actually act out their scenes before animating them?
