When we lived in BLR I made sure we would go back to Kolkata for every Durgapuja. Every year barring the year of covid, we were there, celebrating and experiencing the city in mirth. Then life moved me to the US and I remember feeling pathetic during the second Durgapuja. There were friends and all, yes but I did not feel at home. I recall crying and eating sushi, while S caressing my head and telling we would go back next year onwards. Then the next year happened. we visited Kolkata. My last Durgapuja in the city I had loved more than anyplace, until NYC. I don’t know, I don’t feel the rush to be back anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I would be more than happy to be back home. I was just back home during the war and how heart ached when I left. But do I actively plan to go back? The way I used to? No not anymore. Neither do I make that list of must eat places, nor I plan for the sarees/jewellery. I don’t know why. I tried to look the other way to numb down the pain that lingered after I left, so that memories don’t flood in as much. I don’t even post/consume India travel content as much, because it hurts. It was not supposed to. My emergency fund is just enough to get back to Kolkata. As if life is sorted once I land at Netaji Subhash Bose airport. But this massive geographical distance did make a void. Being the classic escapist I am, I tried not to resolve but ignore. Now all I am left with is a hole, that is empty. I do not know, if me saying I don’t feel like going back comes out of me trying not to acknowledge the sense of missing? Not that I would look forward to the JC Durgapuja anyway. I mean we do have fun and hang with friends. It’s all great. But it’s not Kolkata Durgapuja. Do I want to be back in the city? No not even that. I just went. What do I want? I don’t know! Make me make sense? May be I will travel for a bit. May be I will bury my face in the snow in Vermont. May be I am not okay with this sudden onslaught of cold in NY. And it’s not even winter. Fcuk. May be I do want to be back in Kolkata. May be one day when I have saved enough and worked enough and seen the world as I wanted to, I would go back? I don’t know!

Saree Goes Global — from 2024 to 2026! 🌏✨

2024 marked the beginning of something truly special — the first @sareesgoesglobal brought a huge gathering to Father Duffy Square in the heart of Times Square, New York City. It was May, the energy was infectious, and the enthusiasm for the saree was quite literally in the air! ❤️ I attended that slong with @orangewayfarer

In 2025, I was thrilled to be part of the second edition, along with two dear friends @som_virtual & @dancing_in_d_dark . Here’s a little montage of our experience — the colours, the camaraderie and, of course, the sarees! 💃🏽✨The best part was when my aunt shared the newspaper coverage in the bengali daily & she could point me out ...

Last week, on 23 August 2026, the third edition brought the celebration back to Times Square. Though I wasn’t there physically this time, watching it unfold from afar brought back all those wonderful memories — and I could still feel the enthusiasm, the pride and the sheer joy of celebrating the saree.

Here’s to the saree going truly global! 🇮🇳🌎❤️

In the beginning of this innings in the east coast I still hankered for my life in the ooru ... home to me was only "bangalore", but thanks of to each of these faces ... eventually "dwitwiyaardho" became home.
I still can't believe and express my gratitude for the last few days , especially the last day ... (some people dont even have social media presence, but the love you poured - my heart is full) ; thank you for making me part of your celebrations & life !
I have observed , my life has been supported by my friends ... my uncle used to tease me, saying my life revolves around phone, french & friends... I think the evolved version would be Food & Friends ... and in fact both these make life more interesting.
Recently I got to know , in Japanese there is a word called - "nakama" , a word which has stayed with me ... friends beyond family ...
on this day ... all I wish to say is I am thankful to the universe for having you in my life ....
(20 pics were hard to choose )
Also I must thank @ambalika.mukherjee for the introduction to @baratswati & then there was no looking back ...
Not to forget to mention my harpergirls ...

In 2018 after doing the role for over 5 years in the Org when I was taking a break and headed to the US , to see the world (as I had told my then manager Bhavna , to whom I am ever indebted , for the 10 months break she approved in staggered manner) ... I came back to India , life happened , Covid hit, we recovered , we started building life again ... n then in 2023 I finally parted with the Org I was connected to ...close to 14 years ... initially I took life slow ... I was healing & then end of 2024 life happened once more & I am still in that rhythm or inertia .... life in BOI was like nothing I had known earlier - but the warmth & love the people showed , the confidence with which I could do the role .... was much needed to start life once more !
thank you , each one IKWYA & YKIT !!

btw, this was my daily route ... each time I traversed , I went through the dialogues / songs from KAL HO NA HO ...a movie I had watched umpteen number of times to still remember the dialogues by heart ...

The weekend before the #metgala2024 , when @aliaabhatt walked on the carpet wearing a @sabyasachiofficial ... 100s of Women gathered at Times Square , NYC ... to celebrate saree , a free flowing , one size fits all garment , mark of our culture for ages , worn in different ways ... with pride !
With representation from different parts of the globe ... it was an event with so much of variation yet united , for the love of one thing : saree !
I wore a #shantipuri saree I had picked up from Gariahat , Kolkata sometime back but I had never worn for the event , teamed with a crop top as I have carried limited indian attire ,this time.
@orangewayfarer and I met at @carlosbakery near port authority and walked to the venue ,on the way each women we met in saree huddled together without having to give any context as to where we are headed. Once we reached the venue & joined Team India , we crooned at each other that the most outstanding team that morning was Team Bangladesh ..
I could not make a reel and I chose to give the snippets like this so as to give you the varied flavours of that morning .
With the recent happenings in #Bangladesh , being a 'bangal' I cannot be unaffected (our roots are in opar bangla , although even my grandmother hailed from North Kolkata ... I grew up listening to countless stories of her childhood memories , each time she visited Barisal during Durga puja to how they left the country with almost nothing & some of the posts on social media reminds me of my grandma's tales... its a long story and needs another post or posts) and its also the 10th National Handloom day .... so while looking for pics/snippets to post ... this is the day which I wanted to #throwback .
🫶When I see saree clad women dolls among other dolls in the pre-school , I feel good now . True reflection of I&D.
Thanks @sareegoesglobalnyc2024 for this wonderful moment & memory !! #avrilsfoodjournee #payertolayshorshey #usadiaries #usadiaries🇺🇸 #may2024 #sareegoesglobal #loveforsaree #sareelove #culturetrip #proudindian #nationalhandloomday #celebrateyourself #celebrateourroots
