Meet Sierra Heimel, resident geologist at Oregon Caves National Monument and quite possibly the coolest human to ever willingly crawl into a show-box size hole in the earth. She’s slept in caves in COMPLETE darkness. FOR FUN. She knows an unreasonable amount about what’s happening beneath our feet. And we are absolutely obsessed with her. We went underground to talk rocks, caves, and all the weird, wonderful things hiding beneath the surface. 🪨 🎙️ A new episode of Go Wildly is coming your way, and trust us, you’re gonna want to SEE this one. 👀 Follow along and subscribe on YouTube so you don’t miss our underground adventure! #GoWildlyPodcast #OregonCaves #CaveGirls #inthewildforthewild #SouthernOregon

NO CAP. Just a guy with a lot of friends. 🦭 They say you shouldn’t approach wild sea lions. Nobody told Jesse. One trip to the Oregon coast, five new best friends, and absolutely zero personal space. Some guys are dog people. Apparently, he’s a sea lion guy. 🧢 The Oregon Caves Cap Brand new. Never worn. One available. Real hat. Fictional adventure. #cap #nocap #oregoncoast #vintagestyle #truckerhat

The Adventures of Chase and Case💚🏞🌲🏄‍♂️🐾🫣🤗😎 The Head And The Heart - Rivers And Roads lyrics A year from now we'll all be gone All our friends will move away And they're going to better places But our friends will be gone away Nothing is as it has been And I miss your face like Hell And I guess it's just as well But I miss your face like Hell Been talking 'bout the way things change And my family lives in a different state And if you don't know what to make of this Then we will not relate So if you don't know what to make of this Then we will not relate Rivers and roads Rivers and roads #rivers #roads #oregon #oregoncoast #life

Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to explore the Oregon Caves National monument BY CANDLELIGHT!!! If you ever have the chance to it is well worth it; Ranger Ellie was an incredible guide (it was Ellie’s first time guiding the candlelight tour- 10/ 10), the light was magical and we learned so much! Here are some doodles of some of the cave’s residents- a Townsend’s big eared bat, a Yuma bat and a long eared myotis bat. There’s loads of cool insects and invertebrates, too, like these Harvestmen (daddy longlegs) “spiders” and tail-less scorpions! get at me. 🧡

National Parks are awesome! But the sites with the name “National Park” in their title only make up 63 of the 433 NPS sites across the United States. The National Park Service manages and protects tons of different lands- so you might see the NPS logo on a National Recreation Area, Seashore, Memorial, or Battlefield (and more). While it’s awesome to love the big parks, don’t forget to visit the smaller sites that also have lots to offer! I spent the past six months at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve as a Science Communication Intern with Scientists in Parks. I learned SO MUCH! Located in Southwestern Oregon nearly on the border of California, Oregon Caves is an amazing destination to learn about the wildlife, caves, history, and ecology of the region. As a Science Communication Intern, my job was split 80% interpretation and 20% resource management. Cave tours were my main focus. I guided tours through the cave, making sure each visitor was prepared for the difficulty of the tour. ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ • Discovery tours were guided every day and covered a range of topics related to the cave (animals and insects, how the cave formed and changes, history and culture). Each ranger has a different tour, so even if you visited multiple times, you’d still learn new information about the cave. • Kids and Family is a kid-oriented tour, mine was focused mostly on geology. It’s much more hands on, with a few props to help involve the kids (kids love to touch things, and you can’t touch the cave). • Candlelight tours were the last tour of the day. All lights were turned off and visitors were guided through by real candlelight. This tour focused more on the historical aspects of the cave. Off-trail tours were my favorite to guide. You get suited up in a bunch of safety gear (including coveralls) and explore the less developed sections, deeper in the cave. Before this job I had little experience in caves, so being able to learn enough to actually teach others safe caving practices was super cool. I also had the opportunity to take an off-trail cave rescue class! Oregon Caves is also an international dark sky park! I helped lead an event about how moths can be impa

What A Wonderful World Lyrics: "Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high And the dreams that you dream of Once in a lullaby Oh, somewhere over the rainbow Blue birds fly And the dreams that you dream of Dreams really do come true Someday I'll wish upon a star Wake up where the clouds are far behind, me Where trouble melts like lemon drops High above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow Blue birds fly And the dream that you dare to Why oh why can't I Well I see trees of green And red roses too I watch them bloom for me and you And I think to myself What a wonderful world Well I see skies of blue And I see clouds of white And the brightness of day I like the dark And I think to myself What a wonderful world" #oregoncoast #oregon #sunset #love #rainbow
