QOTD: What was your favorite fantasy read last year?

The Iron Widow was my last fantasy read of 2021; it was also the book that broke my fantasy book reading slump (if that's a thing). I fell in love with the characters, especially Zetian, and most of all, I am in awe with all the elements put together in the novel *cough* special mention the love triangle.

I am super excited about the sequel.

This is by far one of the most difficult books for me to review - probably because I hope readers can start into Piranesi and his World without any prior knowledge on what to expect other than the one written on the book's blurb. I honestly think that this is the best way to appreciate Susanna Clarke's work 📚

Let's discuss what's in the overview then! The fact that Piranesi lives in a house with infinite rooms and space so wide it can enclose the tides of oceans should be a mystery enough to pique one's interest.

The first few pages can be disorienting because of its format, but all the more will it make you want to explore Piranesi's World, know more about Other's fervent search for the Secret Knowledge, and understand why Piranesi writes down his thoughts this way.

This book - so strange and unique from the fantasy books I've read - is also the most personal book I've read. How timely was the release too - Susanna Clarke has gifted us with this treasure during the strangest and weirdest time of our lives.

This book is an escape to our own realities and we can instead be enthralled by seeing how Piranesi learns to study his infinite yet seemingly finite World, shows us how to find joy and contentment wherever one is, and how truths, sudden changes, and revelations can challenge us and at the same time, showcase our soul's vulnerabilities and strengths.

One of the most unique and strangest book to comfort us in the strangest of times.

My greatest #booksta regret is not reading Piranesi earlier (I have had this on my shelf since July 🤯). The news about this book winning Woman's Prize this year has convinced me to bump it up my TBR list. Good thing that I did and now, it's been three days since I've finished Piranesi and I still keep thinking about it and reading about the easter eggs I've missed.

Yes, Piranesi is one of my best reads this year. Probably my lifetime. ✨

There is bliss when you step into something with little to no expectations and it manages triumphantly to awe and razes your mind! 🧚✨

I'm currently reading #Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, and I've read countless reviews that it's his debut novel and also his weakest book. They were right that it has flaws, but the world building, the magic, and the characters dazzles me! ✨ It's also pretty to cool to see characters who were most certainly inspiration for other characters that would come in future series such as Mistborn and Stormlight Archive.

Elantris is a story that focuses on a fallen city, it's zombified inhabitants who were once Gods, a failing kingdom, a religious superpower that aims at dominating and controlling every other kingdom in the world, a fallen prince, a kickass princess, a red armored priest, politics, magic, warfare and an innumerable number of elements!

If you want to read a fantasy book with no more than 600+ pages, this is for you! 🤗

It’s 9.9 so it’s another battle for us bookworms. I’ve been seeing discounts all over my social media and I just gave up… Oh well, if buying books make you happy, but them all!

Also, just a reading update! These are the books that I’m currently but since I’m kinda stressed with some school stuff, I’ll be starting on An Ember In The Ashes tomorrow. I plan to read it nice and slow. I also bought transparent sticky notes and this would be my first time annotating!

Around 4 to 5 am, I was computing all my book & merch expenses because I wanted to buy She Who Became The Sun. And guess what? I bought it! Thank you @carpelibrumbookstoreph! They have their website now so go check out those books!

- There’s nothing much happening for now but I know it’ll get busier as the month goes.

What are your essentials for a long reading session? 😌☁️🍃

I actually have an exclusive pencil case and a small tote bag just for my reading essentials.

• A post-it and pen ✍🏻, I often need to write down my thoughts as I'm reading so I don't forget how I'm feeling while reading that page.

• Origami bookmarks 🔖 , I know it's very specific haha but I fell in love with these corner bookmarks because it's easy to use and convenient. I use multiple bookmarks to tab the map, glossary, and other important pages so it's easy to go back and forth. And hey, it's so pretty for my paperback books!!

• Earphones & playlist 🎶, this is probably the most important essential of the bunch. Before I start a book I make a playlist of instrumentals related to the book to help me relax and focus. And I just love how music fuels my emotions especially when it matches a scene.

• Tote bag 💼, my reading spot keeps on changing that I find it easy to have a bag dedicated for my reading essentials so I can carry it around if i have to go somewhere! I honestly find it more useful than a book sleeve haha.

• Hot or Cold beverage, I love having a drink nearby when I’m reading!!

Some may find it excessive to have a reading routine/essentials but sometimes I like to go extra to make reading an experience! 🙈💗 How about you? What are your reading essentials???

🍃🌸 reading update 🌼🦋

#MistbornMonday I'm currently reading part 2 of The Well of Ascension, and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! Even though a lot of people warned me that it’s dragging or boring... I honestly find the pacing really nice. It's slow but in a good way that you get to witness the character and plot development. Not only the characters but as a reader you also get to learn things like how does leadership or politics works. ☺️✨ and can we talk about how Brandon Sanderson is a MASTER OF OMINOUS EPIGRAPHS????? The level of foreshadowing is INSANE! 😱

QOTD: Who is your recent favorite author?

I just recently read Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim and I really love the book and her way of writing. Just got a copy of her latest book, Six Crimson Cranes from @pixievault july box.

Purchased these lovely origami bookmarks from @oribyleen, I think these go well with the book.

Preto had written this book brilliantly and phenomenal. Everything was just perfectly laid out as every plot twist and character twist unfolds itself unexpectedly. I felt like my words won't be enough on how to describe how I enjoyed this book.

I cannot find the right words on how to describe the world-building. The world-building was exceptional, it was so vivid and remarkable. The storyline was very informative and executed impressively as it revolves around politics, power, betrayal, and revenge while interweaving the present with history.

The characters (main and side characters) were diverse and complex! 🥰 The multiple POVs was just immaculate! I love how Preto was able to excellently represent women empowerment, people of color, and queerness!

If you love exploring believable high fantasy, mythical creatures, magic, history, and politics, this is definitely for you.🤘🏻

Crown of Feathers is an outstanding combination of Ember in the Ashes and Mulan! 🙌🏻

I also super love the letters, archives, timeline, and glossary included for the readers to have a better understanding of the world Preto built.

Needless to say more, it's a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating for me!!!

Just sharing my handmade bookmarks! Isn’t it cute? 😌💗🪲

Inspired by my love for plants + flower jewelries + pastel colors = super duper cute flower pendants 🌼 in the shade of lilac, blush pink, and many more colors!! 🌸 I just love how it’s looks so UNIQUE and it made my book spine look elegant and cute! ✨ Also these bookmark are not heavy at all! Since the beads that I used are very light 〰

I can’t wait to craft more since I’ll be including these for my 3rd collection! Only at @oribyleen 💠

And for some reading update…
🎐 I’m almost done reading The Final Empire! Things are already getting intense and like the Skaa, I find their situation hopeless. I’m scared for them. 😭

🎐 I’m also reading XOXO by Axie Oh. This book is so cliche but I really don’t mind because the story heals my heart! 😭💗 It truly feels like I’m watching a Kdrama or reading a Shoujo manga/Webtoon!! And I’m sucker for those!!! 🤣 (p.s I rarely praise a romcom book so this is a first!)

July is finally over! I started my vacation thinking it would be stress-free but I’ve kinda struggled with loads of stuff this month. Though, I want to mention everything I’ve been grateful for.

First, my shop @wavesofnostalgia.ph which I’ve been planning for years. I’m super thrilled to finish everything! I seriously love what I’m doing right now and I hope I could continue this while I have classes.

Second, my crammed giveaway with @lunacelestials_reads. From the planning to the announcement, I enjoyed all of it! Congratulations again to all the winners! Watch out for future giveaways.

Third, my grades. I worked hard for it and I know it's been a tough year. At least, I earned money to buy more books!

Fourth, family and friends, for the unending love and support in everything I do.

Last, but not the least, to God. For always guiding me to the right path. Thank you, Lord! I love you!
