~incantation for fall: thank you for a beautiful summer, for the love, friends, adventure, food and swimming. Thank you for the humidity in my curls. We’ve reached our apex. It’s now time to stir stews and walk outside with more ease. We’ve reached our limit of 107 degree heat indexes. Bring fall fast 🪢~

On Saturday, September 19 @6bcgarden , we invite visitors to wander through a space where sculpture, sound, and movement become small openings into remembrance and shared imagination. A labyrinth of sculptures by Lizzy Chemel, Erin Lingard and Ori Carlin bind the natural world with symbolic impressions. Beginning in the afternoon unfolding the repose of the day, the exhibition will culminate with closing performances by Sky Axe, Karol Konstancia with ensemble, and Fillan Fernando. In the Distortion of Celestial Privacy, a Door Left Open in the Mind, presents moments of pause where the private worlds we carry within us are invited to briefly open onto the garden and one another.

Special thanks to Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. This event is a recipient of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Arts Engagement Fund.

@aartimanik and a wonderful group of participants opened up the anagama here @theokidokistudio last week after about 96 hours of active firing, and a full week of waiting on the kiln to cool. There were so many rewarding pots and moments of joyful learning. It was a great firing. Congratulations to all the participants and a huge huge thank you to Aarti for traveling all the way to lead such a wonderful firing. July and early August have been so full of wood firings for us. It’s been such an exciting summer. #anagama #theokidokistudio #kilnopening #contemporaryceramic #contemporaryclay

"Foreground, Conclusion" brings together recent work by Ori Carlin and Eve Brown asking us to consider our connection to the physical world.

Fired in various wood fire kilns across the Hudson valley and Connecticut Carlin makes functional carved pots, thrown using a slab-based variation of Korean Onggi technique. Brown works in hand-sewn nets, sculptures, and process-oriented ceramics to explore the porous boundaries between people, objects, and the natural world.

@sophiekyoon.ceramics train kiln opening was this weekend, and what a wonderful opening it was. Lots of ash drips and beautiful shino surfaces. Congratulations to all the participants on their killer pots and all the hard work they were rewarded for. #sophieyoon #trainkiln #trainkilnworkshop #theokidokistudio #ceramicsworkshop

Last weekend @sophiekyoon.ceramics lead a great group of participants through a train kiln firing focusing largely on the use of shino glazes. The group worked really well through a soggy spring day of glazing and loading the kiln and had two beautiful days of firing. Sophie is an incredible teacher and the group couldn’t have been better! Tomorrow everyone returns to open the kiln and see the results of their efforts. It’s going to be great! #sophieyoon #theokidokistudio #woodfiredceramics #trainkilnworkshop #contemporaryceramics

SENSE OF PLACE is a conversation about the environments that shape us.

Hosted at Ohayo Mountain House - a new private residence designed and developed by Amin Tadj Studio in the Catskill Mountains, it pays homage to the long-standing vernacular architecture of the Hudson Valley.

Extending this heritage into the contemporary era, it’s a place where the borders of privacy, individuality and community blend within a relatively small footprint. Situated on just over 2 acres of wooded land, the three-bedroom, single-story house maximizes the presence of nature with a floor plan that wraps around three sides of an inner court and an abundance of openings that offer multi-directional views of and access to the outdoors. The pièce de résistance is the undulating roof whose complex geometry is a feat of structural engineering, creating a continuous gesture that mirrors the mountainous context of the area.

From April 11 through May 31, Ohayo Mountain House will transform into a living, breathing gallery with contemporary works by 21 designers and artists settling into rooms, pathways, and clearings.

We hope to see you this spring. More information is available on our website (link in bio).
