So happy and grateful to have gotten to join @oceanx aboard the OceanXplorer, one of the greatest research vessels in the world! I was one of 20 students from the US and China who sailed together from Hong Kong to Ningbo to Shanghai, learning about cutting-edge ocean science and building everlasting friendships. As the only Chinese American student, I had the immense privilege of contributing my perspective in this merging of cultures and careers and representing my graduate school (@scripps_ocean). I hope that this voyage and others like it help unite scientists across nations for the health of our planet. Until we meet again, 再见! 🇺🇸🇨🇳

Let the ocean exploration continue 🌊

From 31 Oct to 6 Nov, I used my lucky token from @tanotoeducation to explore the sea with @oceanx. The moment I stepped onboard, I was completely mesmerized that such a modern and sophisticated research vessel actually exists. During the classes, I felt incredibly fortunate to meet so many inspiring experts — Lionel with his deep knowledge of immersive media, Rahul in game creation and development, Dr. Maiszah @maizahma in marine scientific research, Dr. Nada @nada_abdalkader in seagrass studies, Oriel @orieldanielson with his video production expertise and shoutout to the media team @emma_batty @maybeitseva ! Each session opened my eyes to the mysteries hidden beneath the ocean’s surface.

This experience also revealed the vast potential of ocean exploration and Indonesia’s role as a maritime nation. It reminded me that passion and purpose can transcend academic boundaries, even beyond my background in Chemical Engineering. Inspired by OceanX, I’m determined to contribute to marine discovery through science, innovation, and impactful storytelling. It was also wonderful to meet so many like-minded friends from around the world who care deeply about the ocean 🌏

EVER is home to The Portal, a historic bank vault reimagined by artists I admire. The Portal Pt. I is an interactive installation by local artist Nick Mehedin. His piece invites viewers to engage, explore, create imagery, and examine our role in a society dominated by technology. Step into The Portal this weekend, Saturday 12-4. We love to see the images you create there, please do share!
