I choreographed four workshops of Duncan Sheik’s musical-in-the-making Alice By Heart more than a decade ago and I always loved playing in his musical world, and playing with him. He was awesome and kind and gifted. I’m sad he’s gone, I’m sorry we won’t get more music, and it was nice to hear one more new Duncan score tonight at The Night Egg. ❤️

Three years in the making and we’ve finally made it to opening night. I’m so grateful for all of the amazing people, hard work, and beautiful music making I’ve experienced while helping to put this show together. Of course, immense gratitude goes to the king- my boss, mentor, and off-the-clock friend- @ormatias for dragging me along to the club with him. And thank goodness for team music- @parkmujin @leigh_delano @jesseray_on_drums @cmkeelan @senyahanad @taylorjwmusic @ben_plays_bass - without whom I would have surely gone mad. Truly the best team!

Congrats to everybody on an amazing achievement!

✨ FIRST LOOK | MEMOIRS OF AMOROUS GENTLEMEN, DUNCAN SHEIK’S LATEST MUSICAL ✨

A first look at the cast and creative team of the new Off-Broadway musical Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, featuring music by Duncan Sheik and a book by Leah Nanako Winkler.

The company met the press at The Night Egg in NYC, offering a first performance from the new musical followed by portraits with the cast and creative team.

The afternoon felt particularly poignant in the wake of Duncan Sheik’s recent passing. A beloved member of the music and Broadway communities, Duncan leaves behind an extraordinary body of work and an enduring theatrical legacy, perhaps most indelibly through his Tony and Grammy Award-winning score for Spring Awakening. Hearing music from one of his newest works made the occasion especially meaningful.

The afternoon opened with remarks from producer Tony Marion honoring Duncan and his extraordinary legacy, followed by Sophia Anne Caruso and Company paying tribute to Duncan and the production with a deeply moving rendition of “Immured.”

Based on the acclaimed manga by Moyoco Anno, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen stars Sophia Anne Caruso as Colette, Cory Jeacoma as Léon, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe as Nana, and Jenny Powers as Madame, with direction and choreography by Rob Ashford and music supervision by Or Matias.

The production marks the first Japanese manga to be adapted into an American musical in the English language.
