🔧 Swipe to see the ultimate back alley resurrection! ➡️🚲🍂

Found this early '80s AMF Hawk frame literally buried under years of dirt and leaves. For the movie buffs out there, you’ll recognize this design immediately-it’s the exact frame Mikey rides in The Goonies (1985)! 🎬🍿Never Say DIE!

Seeing where it started, I deliberately skipped the paint booth. That heavily weathered raw-metal patina took decades of nature's help to create, and it has way too much character to cover up.

Instead, I focused on a full mechanical rescue: polished up the remaining chrome, threw on a fresh upgraded crankset, new bars, and finished it off with a beautiful, straight set of vintage 20” Lester alloy mags.

To quote Indiana Jones: "It belongs in a museum!" 🤠

Billy’s design for the 2nd Generation HYPER frames, dated July of 1983. After Billy signed Greg to Factory Hyper, they started working on a longer frame with a round downtube. This would come out in December of 1983.

Shiny and new HYPER first generation frame + fork, still in its original box. The newspaper wrapping is from 1984.

Billy had these stacked up at home, ready to ship out to the next person who called or mailed in.

Greg Grubbs joins HYPER BMX - official announcement in BMX ACTION MAGAZINE, January 1984.

Our dad wasn’t an investor but he did do all advertising for Billy. His most famous ad premiering in BMX ACTION in December 1983 and into 1984.

Billy met Greg Grubbs at a meet in early 1983. He knew he was the guy he wanted on the HYPER Factory Team, but it wasn’t until they got to know each other at Camp Woodward in the summer of ‘83 (Billy was a rider, Greg was a counselor) that he started to convince him to make the jump.

The new HYPER brochure from ‘83 featured a fold out poster to hang on the wall.

And here’s the original negative print and heartbeat lines used in the ad. Billy was the model, our dad the photographer and designer of the brochure.

Anyone here have this poster in their wall?

Wow, what a piece of HYPER history to find! The original prototype frame order from Billy to Voris Dixon.

12-22-82

2 prototypes, the rest is history. Wonder if these frames will show up at some point or if they were sold or broke along the way… time will tell.
