Cooling Systems

At the Cervia salt pan, cycles of life echo one another on an intra-planetary journey between subjects large and small. Established to produce what was once the most widespread natural preservative, salt, the Cervia salt pan is now a sanctuary for a unique ecosystem, controlled by human visitors through their labour and leisure.

$SUTURE: Staging the Scars on show at Venice Arsenale x @artelagunaprize 16 Nov - 8 Dec Our skin is a surface. A surface which changes with time - the cracks on it are the indelible mark of happenings, of time imprinting itself on our bodies. As I age, cracks - their very essence as tactile evidence of lost (or found) time - have fascinated me. I am a person who ages, whose skin cracks as time moves forward. But as my skin cracks, it leaves a trace of the past in the present, a physical manifestation of living memory. A wall, like our skin, has a living memory. A sudden, intense blow can create a crack, or slowly a fracture can form as pieces tumble - but the living memory of those pieces remains - despite their absence, the trace of their presence lingers. Sutures allow our wounds to heal, for cracks to connect, but we will always wear the scars of time, and must not forget where they came from. If a crack is a wound, how can we use them to help us heal the wounds of history? The question is not to look away from the cracks, but to find them, to remember them, and by remembering them, imagine alternative futures. ... link in bio to full text Co-curated together with @oskaruhrskov @toebee.jones many thanks to @martwalo @valentinalmb$

$At Venice Arsenale, I present the installation Suture - Staging the Act and the Act of Staging x @artelagunaprize opening Saturday 16th Nov, 5pm on show 16 Nov - 8 Dec Tese delle Nappe, Arsenale Nord For some time now, I’ve been pondering the genesis of cracks. I am young and I am aging and it is beautiful, maybe that is why. I allow more listening to my memory and learn how to get to know myself. A wall, our bones like our soul have a shock memory. A sudden, harsh blow opens a crack, or slowly, a fissure follows the points struck in the past. Memory metabolizes the trauma and conceals it, whether constant or fleeting, small or large, until the manifestation of a fracture, an undeniable witness of what has transpired. Meanwhile time passes and fractures open and heal, the traces remain defining us as they settle into scars. When I started working with tin, I was fascinated by how easily it transitions from liquid to solid and vice versa. I was inspired by the Japanese technique of Kintsug and my background rooted in graffiti pushed me to decontextualize this technique and bring it to the streets. There are many spontaneous molds in the city and tin naturally adapts to them, first of all the cracks in the ground. By experimenting I soon discovered how hand-poured molten tin could take on a shape very similar to that of a crack and it was there that I wanted to break away from tracing reality to move closer to fiction: the rapresentation of a fake crack, staging tomorrow's passage of time to imagine a future. In a present marked by war, borders, and fractures, how can art help us heal the wounds of history? If a crack is a consequence, how can art dissipate an impending blow? Imagining change is its starting point. We have melted sculptures, art, to make weapons. Now we break ranks, melt the weapons, close our eyes. Black, and we will see everything. Let our imagination take over.
