Saltwater Paintings
There must be something strangely sacred in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea.'
Salt is essential for life. It symbolises taste, enables food to be conserved, and even mummifies bodies!
It purifies - the Bible mentions that Sodom and Gomorrah were purified with salt. Sinners are changed into pillars of salt, and we can ward off evil and deter unwanted strangers by spreading salt.

However, salt can also kill. It kills weeds, corrodes, dries up and can make water undrinkable. It is this duality that has always impressed man.
Those who didn't have salt developed ever more inventive techniques to obtain or produce it.
Throughout antiquity, salt was one of the most important commodities, and led to early exchanges between different civilisations, resulting in universal transport and exchanges. The word in itself is often similar in different languages.

The Egyptians of High Egypt exchanged it at certain times for its weight in gold. For a long time it was money for exchange; the word "salary" comes from the Latin "salarium" as the Roman soldiers were paid in salt.

If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears, one destroys.” – Chief Dan George

Space is not empty. It is full, a plenum as opposed to a vacuum, and is the ground for the existence of everything, including ourselves. The universe is not separate from this cosmic sea of energy.
Dirt on canvas . Empty canvas series #003 /2021 oso parado
Perhaps there is more sense in our nonsense and more nonsense in our 'sense' than we would care to believe.

Iceland road trip doing some Art snow.
Journeys are the midwives of thought. Few places are more conducive to internal conversations than a moving plane, ship or train. There is an almost quaint correlation between what is in front of our eyes and the thoughts we are able to have in our heads: large thoughts at times requiring large views, new thoughts new places. Introspective reflections which are liable to stall are helped along by the flow of the landscape. The mind may be reluctant to think properly when thinking is all it is supposed to do.

At the end of hours of train-dreaming, we may feel we have been returned to ourselves - that is, brought back into contact with emotions and ideas of importance to us. It is not necessarily at home that we best encounter our true selves. The furniture insists that we cannot change because it does not; the domestice setting keeps us tethered to the person we are in ordinary life, but who may not be who we essentially are.

If we find poetry in the service station and motel, if we are drawn to the airport or train carriage, it is perhaps because, in spite of their architectural compromises and discomforts, in spite of their garish colours and harsh lighting, we implicitly feel that these isolated places offer us a material setting for an alternative to the selfish ease, the habits and confinement of the ordinary, rooted world.

Saltwater Paintings
These paintings are left in the sea for 24 hours or more and then they are going to be found by GPS tracking, to see how the salt and the wind transform the work.
