It’s me, Lumberjack Rolly, chopping up some branches that have fallen (I’d never harm a living tree 🌳❤️)

I love trees 💚 so much that I actually had to DNF this terribly sad book half way through: “The Overstory” by Richard Powers.

The book’s divided into sections entitled: Roots, Trunk, Crown and Seeds. The Roots section contained 8 very well-written short stories that could have been stand-alone tales, all with an arbor theme🌲 In the Trunk section, the various characters come together and the realities of deforestation, the lumber industry, and environmental destruction come into play. After reading two environmental fiction novels at the end of 2020, I just couldn't take another that deals with this type of devastation.

A philosophy of Indigenous People that the author shares with us is that each tree is a gift, not an entitlement that we just bulldoze and claim indiscriminately 🌲🌱🌳🌿🌴🍃

Powers won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for this book, so my DNF’ing it is all me, not a reflection on the book 🟢
