SPY on tour with Empty Shell Casing, Spite House at Ottobar, Baltimore, MD. October 19, 2026

Rites of Spring cover on a Monday, can't really ask for much more than that. ESC was cool also, had the late 90s feel of mixing old and new in just the right amount that it felt fresh.

No pix of Ousted, but you can catch them again at Ottobar this Sunday, 10/25. My camera was in my bag for a good portion of this show.

SPY came out swinging like a baseball bat to the teeth. They brought absolutely ferocious live energy and pummeled through their set one song after another, barely leaving you time to catch your breath before the next assault to your ears and consciousness bathed in distortion and feedback wielded like a weapon.

These guys bring it every time I've seen them and don't hold back. But they're not one of these bands that are all about macho posturing, their rage is righteous, their anger has purpose. This is urgent music with a message. If you aren't pissed, you aren't paying attention. It's the perfect soundtrack to a riot, like a sonic molotov.

Here are some choice lyrics from Labor Dispute
"Write your own laws, Play by your own rules
Without labor you are nothing...
Unpaid wages, Underpaid workers Laughable minimum wage/Ruling class toying with our fucking lives

Remember, eventually your time runs out
Labor will be heard / Labor will strike!

Accruing wealth you don’t deserve
Denying those whose work you steal
A chance at a decent life
Accruing wealth you don’t deserve
Send your pigs to repress us
When we’re done with them
It’s you we bust"

...Nuff said.
