This past weekend, our organization was able to send a group of our members to compete at the Annual Medical Device Make-A-Thon Competition at University of Oklahoma!

Lily Walker provided a brief summary about their weekend below:

“On the first night, we attended both Solidworks and Fusion360 workshops where we worked to design common medical tools such as a stethoscope. Later in the evening, we were given our problem set for our device we would be creating: Prosthetics, Orthopedics, and Physical Therapy. After the task was explained, we were let go to start brainstorming possible ideas of what our device could be. The main aspects of our presentation and device were CAD models, anatomical accuracy, feasibility, FDA timelines/approval, and more. We decided on a compression sleeve with EMG reading capabilities for rehabilitation of the hamstring. We designed a CAD model and did a lot of research behind the technology and the physiology of the hamstring and muscles. We also attended a 3D printing workshop during our design process as well as meet with 3 different mentors in the field to discuss our design . We compiled a presentation highlighting all of the components necessary to emphasize the impact of our device . After presenting to a panel of judges and fellow peers, we attended a networking event and a career fair where we had the opportunity to connect with teams from around the country.”

Our organization is so proud of the work you have done over the weekend, and are hoping to give more opportunities like this in the future!
