Hello Friends,

Accountability means having the courage to own your story, acknowledge your mistakes, learn from them and keep showing up as a better version of yourself.
Growth doesn’t happen when we get everything right. It happens when we take responsibility, give ourselves room to learn and choose to do better every day.

Hello Friends,

What makes succession truly successful?
In this conversation on succession as a feminist practice at Azadi, @wanjiku__mwangi shares three things that make all the difference: relationships, learning and accountability.
A meaningful transition isn’t just about passing on leadership. It’s about building trust, learning together and creating space for others to lead and grow.

Amiga, posso me achegar?

Dale play, escucha y comparte. 🔥

POEMA: Amiga, posso me achegar?

Boa noite, peço licença pra chegar.
Amiga eu soube o que aconteceu… posso me achegar?
Quer conversar?

Amiga eu soube o que aconteceu… posso me achegar?

Amiga eu soube o que aconteceu… posso me achegar?

Amiga vem cá, me abraça!
Respira comigo

Fomos reprimidas
Nosso quadril foi travado
Nosso ventre vendido
Nosso corpo enquadrado
Nosso desejo condenado

Hello Friends,

“...if you think about succession as a feminist practice, you understand that your power grows when you share it rather than when you keep it”. - @sophieotiende

Hello Friends,

In this candid conversation, @mariam_awori , @sophieotiende and @wanjiku__mwangi reflect on what succession means at Azadi Community, not simply as a leadership transition but as a feminist leadership practice.
From the beginning, Azadi has intentionally built structures that make space for continuity, shared leadership and a thoughtful transition of power.
For us, succession is not just about who comes next. It’s about building an organisation that can continue to thrive, grow and stay true to its values.

In honor of World Sexual and Reproductive Health Month, NPQ highlights its newest publication, “Why Philanthropy Must Invest in Narrative Power to End Gender Violence.”

According to the World Health Organization, “most of the life-threatening sexual and reproductive health challenges are preventable”—including violence. For any social change, our ability to prevent a problem is heavily influenced by whether we can see the root causes of the issue we hope to address.

In this piece, Natalie A. Collier, Maheen Kaleem, and Jody Myrum share why narrative power is foundational to our collective understanding of gender-based violence and why it should be treated as essential public infrastructure.

“If philanthropy is serious about ending gender-based violence, it must treat narrative infrastructure as essential public infrastructure—investing in the storytellers, cultural workers, researchers, community leaders and movements actively challenging the narratives that make violence seem inevitable.”

Hello Friends,

Our dream is to have more spaces where survivors can feel safe, belong, heal and thrive.
We envision Azadi continuing to be a safe space for every survivor who walks through our doors and in the years ahead, creating communal spaces in Malindi, Mombasa, Kakamega and Kisumu.
We believve that every survivor deserves a place to belong, connect and thrive.

Narrative Revolution Fellowship @ourcollectivepractice has been such a beautiful and peaceful space for me over the past year. We met online every month, shared our work, talked, listened, learned from each other, and had so many wonderful online workshops together. 🌹♥️

I feel incredibly lucky to have met such inspiring and resilient artists and activists from all around the world. Thank you to every participant for sharing your stories, your work, your thoughts, and your beautiful energy. I’m so happy our paths crossed. ✨🦋

And a very special thank you to Dani @daniprisacariu and Lau for creating and holding this space with so much care. I’m truly grateful for everything you put into this program and for making it feel so warm, generous, and safe. 🩵🫧🧜🏻‍♀️

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for the presentation, and to everyone who has been part of this journey in any way. 🩵

I’m leaving this year with so many memories, new connections, and a lot of love. 🤍

Come celebrate with us! Over the past year, I have been a fellow in the Narrative Revolution Fellowship, a community-centric creative incubator bringing together girls and young feminist artists and activists from across regions and movements to explore a shared question: What would the world look like, feel like, and sound like if it supported the dreams, power, and resistance of girls and young feminists?✨

On September 24, we’re excited to share and celebrate the art, dreams, and creative work that have emerged from this journey. Join us as we celebrate our creative journeys and insights:

📅 Date: September 24, 2026 | 🌐 English, Spanish, and Turkish interpretation will be available.
⏰ Time: 2–3:00 pm UTC
️ RSVP: bit.ly/NarrativeRev

Art has always been a site of political awakening, care, hope, and resistance. For girls and young feminists, creativity is not separate from organizing—it is how knowledge is shared, collective healing is practiced, power is built, and new futures are created. ✊🎨

Hello Friends,

In her opening remarks at our 5-year celebration, @wanjiku__mwangi our co-managing director reflected on something powerful that the future isn’t just about what comes next but it’s about how we choose to live and lead today.
@azadicommunity has been living in the future.

Hello Friends,

What makes Azadi different?
We believe reintegration shouldn’t be a one-time intervention. It should be a long-term journey supported by community, connection and opportunity.
At Azadi, survivors find communal healing, opportunities to grow and a space where lived experience is valued as expertise.
Our work is survivor-led, with 70% of our team and 50% of our Board made up of survivors, alongside a collective leadership structure that shares power and decision-making.
