Before the government changed in Afghanistan, my sister was a top student. She told me, "If I'm a top student next time, you have to buy me a bicycle." I was ready to do it. But after the change in government, everything changed. Now, girls are not even allowed to ride a bike.
It is a forbidden dream for them. Having a bicycle isn’t just about wheels; it represents the freedom to go anywhere you want without harming the environment. For someone new to a country, that freedom is what keeps away anxiety, depression, and homesickness. I am so incredibly grateful to Canada for making these simple, beautiful things possible for us—things that so many people back home are now denied.

We rode for a reason and wow, did it feel good.
June 20th Lotus pointed its wheels toward something bigger than a Strava PR, finishing our charity ride at Our Community Bikes on Main Street. Sunshine, good legs, coffee and cookies, and even better company. A finish line that actually means something. We had a wonderful time and we left buzzing.
If you haven’t been, OCB is a Vancouver gem: a community bike shop and social enterprise that gets people riding who otherwise couldn’t. They put refurbished bikes under folks facing financial hardship through Pedals for the People, teach youth and first-time wrenchers to fix their own bikes, and work every day to make cycling more accessible and more diverse. It’s the essential, unglamorous heart of our cycling community, and exactly the kind of work we want to get behind.
So here’s the news: Lotus and OCB are building a season-long partnership, and we want every one of you in on it. Two easy ways to help:
*Donate bikes & parts*. That frame gathering dust, the drawer of takeoff parts, the wheelset you’ll never use again: OCB will give it a second life. Drop off at 2429 Main Street, or start here: http://ourcommunitybikes.org/donate-bikes
*Donate money* and fly the Lotus flag.

OCB will tally every Lotus dollar across the season, so we can watch exactly what our club raises together. Let’s make that a number we’re proud of.
Every bolt, bike, and buck goes right back into the streets we ride. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up today and let’s keep this rolling all season long.
Ride hard, give back
Siobhan 🧡 Huge thanks to @purebread_canada for supporting this event.
