Although ‘Trust Issues,’ on view October 15 — November 5, 2026, mainly discusses AI, the erosion of public trust in media and politics predates this hyper-acceleration of technological change. With technology advancing so rapidly we still have limited understanding of its long term implications. Music Credits: Carson Cox

Wilt Theory is an exploration of the cyclical nature of existence, how renewal and decay coexist. The exhibition examines what happens when the light fades, when the living body, the photograph, and the environment begin to lose their clarity. This exhibition considers wilting and decay not as endings, but as processes of transformation. Matter, light, and time collapse into one another; what once was vivid becomes residue. The works fluctuate between presence and absence, suggesting that nothing ever fully disappears, but is only altered. Time is treated as both subject and material. For example, long exposures, fading prints, and light-responsive installations embody the instability of memory and perception. Visitors move through a gradient of deterioration, from crisp, defined imagery into dim, decomposing forms. Light levels decrease through the space; surfaces will appear to wilt or blur as if breathing with their own impermanence. The exhibition becomes an embodied meditation of disintegration and rebirth. To remember is to grieve (2025) Benjamin Upcavage, BFA Student In To remember is to grieve, I created a photographic typology that documented each step in the process of digitally decaying and altering an image file. This piece intends to confront loss by visualizing the way memories of a deceased loved one fade and change over time. While brainstorming for what exactly to document, or to transform into a collective artwork, I gave a lot of thought to the subject of loss. I wanted to make art about the passing of a close family member in an attempt to emulate the memories I have with her. One of my core childhood memories involving her was collecting shells from the Coquina clam on the beach my family would often visit, so I decided on collecting shells from that beach. I had begun working with the shells to make a photographic typology, but it had occurred to me that Typology in photography can encompass a wide array of different implications. I wanted to show transformation over simple documentation. In a passing discussion with a friend about memory, they mentioned how each time you remember the same thing, you’re envisioning the same memory you previously thought about. In this process, memories change, fade, and deteriorate. In To remember is to grieve, I wanted to portray this idea about memory and how it ties in with loss. One of the shells I collected was still intact, and when laid out it resembled angel wings, like a motif for a sacred object. After getting a high-resolution scan of the shell, I had made an adjustment to the image and saved the documentation as a JPEG file. And then I did it again, and again, until I was left with an image that hardly resembled a shell at all, though it still looked like a pair of wings. I intentionally stopped at forty-nine images, because the family member that this work is about was forty-nine when she passed away. What once represented a core memory of a person I had lost, was transformed into something completely different, in the same way that my memories with that person are unfortunately falling apart as time progresses. @ourhalations @theartsatusf 📍University of South Florida, FAH 228

Were We Ever There is an exhibition that aims to delve deeper into the nature of mental health with the feeling of disconnection. It is meant to encourage the viewer’s reflection on their experiences of feeling like a ghost. Through immersive video installations, photography, ceramics, paintings, and multimedia pieces, the audience will feel connected but not alive, present but invisible. Each piece represents the many views of this struggle from the chilling emptiness of isolation to the occasional lightning flash of clarity that pierces through the fog of depression. Dissociation is a thing that most of us have gone through, where we don’t feel present every day or are unable to connect to our bodies. Artists were invited to share their stories, creating safe spaces for vulnerability and understanding. This exhibition is interactive, with each artist choosing one of the five senses: touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste to incorporate into their works. Senses have a way to bring us back to ourselves and live in the moment. We, as a collective, would like the audience to be engulfed with the emotions we deal with as people who have experienced struggles with mental health.
