The Moccasin Bend Connector is ready for rolling and strolling!
🚲🚶🛴🏃🏻‍♀️💨

Great turnout. Great weather. Thanks to all those who attended this morning’s ribbon-cutting! It was so great to learn of the longstanding plans and partnerships that brought this project to reality. The roll and stroll led by Outdoor Chattanooga was perfect.

Thanks to the many who brought this project to reality!

Going to the park is one of the most underrated ways to support ADHD!

Movement, fresh air, & a change of environment all help increase dopamine, which directly impacts focus and motivation. Students naturally get what they need through exploring & being able to move freely.

Unstructured outdoor time also supports attention & self-regulation without feeling forced or structured. It gives the brain a reset and can reduce that restless/overwhelmed feeling.

This is something I recommend all the time because it actually works and doesn’t require anything complicated!

What outdoor spaces do your students have access to?

The warm weather last weekend gave the chance for a sneak peak of the City’s latest pathway: the Moccasin Bend Connector. The streetscape project is wrapping construction as the year draws to a close. But did you know the work is rooted in RPA’s 2012 and 2016 North Shore Public Spaces plan? Funded in 2016 by the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP), this project connects to valuable public lands managed by the National Park Service on Moccasin Bend. Progress of this nature reflects a decade long collaboration between City departments and stakeholders, and with TDOT who administers the funding.

The project features 1.3-miles of sidepath as a product of two road diets, as well as safer intersections that previously had higher speed slip lanes. Along the way, we caught a glimpse of new bioswales and hundreds of street trees we hope to see flourish this coming spring to add to the experience.

This brings the City one step closer to having multimodal connections that fully connect to the two NPS foot trails on Moccasin Bend along routes already frequently used by many runners and bicyclists.

We’re thankful to RPA for setting the initial vision more than a decade ago, and to @chapublicworks for bringing these plans from concept to reality.

If you’ve already ridden the greenway, let us know your thoughts in the comments. As the project is not yet 100% complete, please exercise caution as the City wraps this one up.

After more than a year of tireless effort to Save Moccasin Bend from the threat of new construction, we learned today that the hospital will be relocated and not rebuilt on this nationally significant land! 🚨📢💯✔️

We are grateful for the due diligence of Tennessee officials and the archaeological survey that proved beyond a doubt what we’ve always known - the highest and best use of this land is preservation and historic interpretation. We are so happy to share this amazing news with you! 🎉🎯💯
