I added some neutral tones to the little faux mantle in the guest room for the season. This antique print, Blind Hope, has my heart and a special story. It was gifted to me by Julie with @ourshabbyshack

I can’t find the words to adequately express my gratitude this morning, but I’ll try. I have a very rare form of glaucoma that only affects 1% of the world population and it has caused me to go blind in my right eye (all but 2 %) and I only have 70% vision in my left that we battle to hold on too. I’ve had 9 surgeries but none have been 100% successful. After hearing my story, Julie with @ourshabbyshack surprised me, and sent this gorgeous antique print by George Frederic Watts circa 1886 entitled blind Hope. Apparently the lady is blind and only has one string on her lyre and she’s leaning in to hear it. It signifies holding onto hope even through major life challenges. Julie said that my story touched her heart and she felt the picture belonged with me since the lady and I share such a challenging obstacle. Each time I look at it I can’t help but tear up. Thank you doesn’t seem enough, but I pray God richly blesses her for her kindness and generosity!!!
Why is Hope blindfolded? Because she sees with the eyes of the heart what the physical eyes cannot perceive. Lacking hope is about not being able to see ahead. And yet this is a picture about hope. It reminds me of the scripture Hebrews 11:1 which links having hope with faith: “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” #allglaucomaisnotthesame #glaucomaawareness #visualimpairment #thankful #grateful #antiqueprints #georgefredericwatts
