POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hey everyone! As we approach our holiday season, we try to do our best to make sure our families have their needs met and provide a great holiday season. One way we do that is by having a toy and coat drive to have a giveaway for our Roosevelt families.

Please be sure to share with your families, friends and on social media sites to help bring as many donations in as possibles. Thanks in advance for the support!

Thank you Bella Vista Elementary for kicking us off with the first field trip of the Fall 2026 season! Your students ROCKED becoming geologists as part of our “Oakland Rocks: From Mountains to Mud” Field Trip!⛰️

Here’s a fun quiz to recap our field trip! (Answer key at the bottom):

1. Where are you most likely to find grains of sand at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park? (A) On the beach, (B) on the mudflat or (C ) in the dunes?

2) Put the following in order of size, largest to smallest: Silt, Boulder, Gravel, Rock, Clay, Pebble, Sand.

3) Where are you most likely to find a crab hiding? (A) In a clump of seaweed, (B) under a rock, (C ) in a shark’s mouth?

4) What tools did you use to gather and observe the smallest forms of sediment in the benthic zone?

5) When you look at mud or sand through a Magiscope (a.k.a. a microscope), what might you find besides tiny pieces of rock?

Thank you again for another wonderful field trip, Bella Vista Elementary! We don’t take your teachers and students’ enthusiasm for GRANITE!🪨

Answer Key (Try to answer before you peek):

1) All three locations.

2) Boulder, Rock, Pebble, Gravel, Sand, Silt, Clay.

3) B.

4) A benthic grab (a sampling device used by marine scientists to collect a portion of the ocean, or in our case the SF Bay, floor (the benthos) — including both sediment and the organisms living in or on it — for ecological study) as well as your hands, eyes, ears and nose.

5) Hint: The answer is also in the answer to 4, such as invertebrate shells, plant parts, minerals, and more!
