There are races that you finish, and then there are races that mean a little more. 🤍

This one was my first triathlon postpartum, not quite 5 months after having Naomi. I somehow ended up 5th overall out of around 500 women and 1st in my age group, which I’m incredibly proud of. But honestly, the finish place isn’t the part I’ll remember most.

As a physical therapist, I spend so much of my time helping people believe that their bodies are capable of more than they currently think they are. I get to walk alongside people as they recover from injuries, rebuild strength, return to running, return to sport, and sometimes figure out who they are in their bodies again.

And then I got to experience a little piece of that journey myself.

Coming back to movement and training after having a baby has been humbling. My body is different. My priorities are different. Some days I feel strong, and other days I’m reminded that recovery is not linear. But this race reminded me that “coming back” doesn’t have to mean becoming exactly who you were before.

Sometimes you come back as someone stronger, more grateful, and with a much deeper appreciation for what your body can do.

And getting to race alongside 500 women made it even more special. Every woman out there had a different story. Different seasons of life. Different reasons for showing up. Some were chasing a PR, some were checking something off their bucket list, some were returning from injury, some were celebrating a milestone, and some may have simply needed to prove to themselves that they could.

That’s what I hope for my patients, too.

I hope you don’t just get out of pain.

I hope you get back to the things you love.
I hope you surprise yourself.
I hope you become stronger than you thought you could.
And I hope your comeback, whatever it looks like, reminds you just how capable you are.

Here’s to doing hard things, in every season of life. 🤍
