Women in Concrete 👷‍♀️ Meet Codie Van Damme Lead Hand / 4th Year Carpenter Outline Construction Codie has been working in the construction industry for three years, building her career in concrete with determination and pride. Her favourite part of the job? Pour day 💪 “Getting to see all your hard work from base prep to building forms finally come together is thrilling. There’s so much excitement on pour day, from waiting for the concrete truck, to placing the concrete and then the finesse of finishing it. It’s a great day of hard work and high energy.” One thing that surprised Codie about the industry is the science behind concrete mix design. “It’s not just cement powder, rock and water. There are so many different admixtures, the cement-to-water ratio, and how it all affects the strength of the concrete. Even different blends act differently when finishing. There’s always something new to learn.” Her advice to women considering a career in concrete or construction: “Working in construction is hard work, especially in the concrete sector. It takes perseverance to succeed. You have to push through the rough days and long hot days, but it’s extremely rewarding. There’s nothing like stripping the formwork and seeing what you helped build.” Thank you, Codie, for leading by example and helping encourage more women to pursue careers in Saskatchewan’s concrete industry. #womeninconcrete #womeninconstruction #concrete #saskatchewan #strongertogether

🏗️🌾🌽🚜🌄🚂🛤️ Gus x Grain Elevator As prairie boys we love a good grain elevator. Spotted this one in Tyndall, South Dakota on our way out west. Beautiful structure and age to it. Super big silo/elevator. Had to pull Gus over for a photo op and see the town. Hope you enjoy. 🏔️🦬🏚️🤠🐎🏂🚠 Bus Conversion Mural (passenger side) Painting murals on the bus was an essential step in the build out! This side was a fun challenge to paint. This scene's composition was based on many photos from the Grand Teton Moulton Barn areas. The mountains painted in the background are part from the Grand Teton National Park. Sharp, jagged, angular, real neat. The barn painted on the bus is also from the same area. We even took the freshly painted bus, Gus, to meet the exact barn/mountains in person too when we were out near that area. Mountainscapes aren't common where Mitch and Nick are from. Land is pretty flat out our way. But mountains and big hills, cliffs, etc have been subjects of fascination over the years for us as artists. We knew we would be driving through some of these mountainous areas and wanted the bus to match in the event of landing a mural in a mountainous town! (Dubois was that town!) Anyway, we loved the idea of painting one of the classic Moulton barns into the scene because it is a nod back at the agricultural past of these now overly touristic areas. Even these barns ended up becoming some of the most photographed barns in the world now, simply due to their surrounding backdrop, the Tetons. We chose a sunset-esque lighting setup for the scene but also wanted the barn to be well lit and prominent. With the bold Homescapes logo across the back left, it all comes together. Hope you enjoyed hearing the backstory and the final product! 🌾👨‍🌾🚜🛤️🚂🌄🐄🌱 Bus conversion mural! (Driver's side) We have recieved lots of comments and questions on our exterior murals and wanted to show and explain! All sides of the bus have a hand painted mural that wraps around. There are two main themes on the mural, the driver's side mural is a "Prairie Theme". We (Mitch/Nick) are both from agricultural farming communities, and long flat land with immense farming is a way of life out here. We wanted to take a slice of "back home" with us along with the journey, so a wide open field with crops and some freight trains was the subject of choice. Freight trains and silos/elevators are commonplace back home. Some of the early history of the towns we grew up near had the elevator as a grounding centerpiece for the development of the area. Since out Homescapes Mural Tour kicks off in Nick's farm state and ends up in Mitch's farm state, it only felt right to go with a picturesque farm scene. A scene that shows the full cycle of the agricultural industry. Crops grow. They are harvested. They are transported to make the food and services requested by all! I hope you enjoyed these images and my little write up on this mural. Lots of hard work, brush strokes, and sprays went into each mural on the bus and I have been stoked to share more closely, details of each side and share the backstory. What do YOU think of the mural? . #mural #streetart #busconversion #vanlife #vanconversion #bus #tourbus #prairie #saskatchewan #grainelevator #indiana #painting #art #landacape #landscapephotography #travel #diy #renovation #paintjob #busmural #vanmural #rvmural #design #nomad #homescapestour #nickabstract #bigmitchone #loop @buckingham_co @outlineconstruction306 @uncle_skoden @pointoptical @vertical.installations
