Happy Friday! As promised in my post last week, here are some coastal images from my time with @outofchicago at the Out of Acadia Conference.

I rarely have the opportunity to photograph the ocean, and so I definitely felt out of my element looking for compositions and ways to express what I was connecting with in the scene.

I found myself wanting to play around with long exposures, as shown in some of these images. I even busted out the 10-stop ND, which I almost never do! It's always fun to push yourself to try new things.

Image #2 is an exposure blend.

A fall bouquet. Somehow I can manage to “see” flowers wherever I go! (Instagram is chopping off some of the bouquet, losing a bit of the effect, but I still love it enough to share.)Thank you @imagesofacadia for showing me the pool where these leaves were spinning for joy. It’s a beautiful time of year here in New England, and we couldn’t have asked for better fall foliage during the @outofchicago workshop last week. Thank you all for putting on the conference in #acadia, and thanks to Mike of @imagesofacadia for co-leading groups through the park with me.

I’m really looking forward to my next workshop on the Schoodic Peninsula this weekend. It’s looking like the ever-changing coastal weather is offering up some great conditions for those emotive, cinematic Maine landscape shots we’re aiming for. Our accommodation right on the peninsula at the Schoodic Institute allows us to optimize the ideal tides during our time together, too.

Stay tuned for more footage and photos from the gathering starting this Friday. We’re eager to share more of the scenery in my home state with you.

I have been playing around with this infrared image that I took on my recent trip to Chicago. I don't know that it is "done" and I may start all over again. That is the thing with infrared, you really have a lot of creative options.

Little Hunter’s Light. •
What started as an overcast, dull shoot where I was focusing on wave movement and long, black & white exposures, turned into a light show beyond expectations on Little Hunter’s Beach in Acadia National Park. Many thanks to @seanbagshaw for running from the other end of the beach to tell me to pick my head up and see what was developing in the sky. This was the first night of the @outofchicago Out of Acadia experience and it turned out to be a wonderful precursor of the week to come.
