With the unofficial start to summer in our rearview, we wanted to take a moment to look back at the awesome winter we had. If there’s one thing we’re most proud of since starting East End Surf Club, it’s been our kids’ programs. Surf Camp is our baby—but if that’s the case, our second born has to be our Grom Retreats to Puerto Rico. 🌊🇵🇷

This year reminded us exactly why. It’s hard to put into words what these trips give to the kids—for some, it’s their first surf trip. For others, it’s their first trip away from their parents, or even their first time abroad in any capacity. For us as coaches, it’s truly a blessing to watch core memories come to life in real time—almost like watching ourselves at their age.

Watching how quickly they improve when surfing with purpose, intention, and defined goals is truly somethin'. Whether they’re chasing their first barrel or nailing a proper cutback—or maybe just surfing over reef for the first time and conquering fears with confidence—this program really works. Seeing the groms grow closer as friends and push each other through encouragement and shared stoke is something special. Watching them mature—taking out the trash (see last slide, Moms requested proof 😂), helping with dinner, keeping track of their own gear, keeping the peace among themselves, etc.—is incredible. And for us, seeing a place like Puerto Rico—somewhere we’ve been so many times—through the eyes of our groms gave us a whole new perspective.

Both our January and April trips were incredible. Great waves, even better crews. We couldn’t do it without the amazing people who give their time and love to make these dream trips come to life:

@rincon_surf_lessons for local guiding and coaching
@sunburntandsalty for poolside yoga sessions
@wavycarrentals for getting us around
Pat’s parents @hafmjf for the home and car—keeping the dream alive
@outofthebluecharters787 for the fresh fish and boat adventures
And of course, all our friends on the island for sharing your waves and good vibes 🇵🇷

We already can’t wait for next year.
