What does “Đi Dạo Hông?”🛵 mean when the place you’re exploring is also becoming home?

Shayla is Vietnamese-American and recently made the decision to call Vietnam home.

For this episode, we invited her to show us Vietnam from her perspective. Not through an itinerary or a list of places to visit, but through the little things that make a day here feel like hers.

Walking without much of a plan. Spending a little too much. Taking way too many photos. Exploring with family, making memories with new friends, and most importantly, learning to đi dạo by yourself.

Because home doesn’t always happen all at once. Sometimes, you find it one walk, one memory, one new friend, and one moment alone at a time.

In Shayla’s words 💭: “đi dạo with me!! spending $$, asian aunty walking around saigon, and taking too many pics are my main hobbies.”

Maybe that’s what Đi Dạo Hông? is really about.

Seeing Vietnam differently, through each other, and sometimes, through yourself.

yeah idk this had to be the most romantic 1 month getaway i’ve ever been on.

In 2025, I learned the importance of three things: authenticity, intention and kindness.

I was a villager in a village and even when I was exhausted or my mental state wasn’t the best, I knew that I would feel much better after seeing my people.

I showed up as my authentic, silly-goofy self. I was intentional about connections that I was fostering and lastly and i think most importantly, i was genuinely kind.

The sum of those three things equated to the year that I had. I was met with enthusiasm and warm welcomes, constantly from SO many people in SO many different settings.

I felt seen and loved this year and it’s all thanks to y’all.

Thankful for those who are always ready to console my emotional ass 😅🙏

But let me be clear: I wasn’t crying because I was sad. I cried because a random street performer’s song made me feel things I didn’t know I could. I cried because the kindness of a stranger’s heart broke through the noise of my constantly spinning thoughts.

I also cried because the beautiful souls I made connections with might never cross paths with mine again. But their ever lasting impression on me will leave me whole and happy.

Honestly, this is my kind of adventure. The highs and lows all wrapped up in one trip.

So if you’re traveling with an empath, just know that it’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

There’s a lot of love, a lot of feeling, and yes, a lot of tears. But at the end of the day, those tears are just tiny reminders of how deeply I’m experiencing the world around me. And that’s worth every single drop 🥲
