I got the chance to hit with a coach who’d worked with ATP players. I expected him to tell me something technical, like “fix your grip” or “swing faster.” Instead, he said this:
“If you don’t know where you’re hitting before the ball comes, you’re already late.”

That single sentence changed how I coach tennis. Up until then, I just corrected technical issues. No plan, no purpose. But he taught me that pros already decide the next shot before they get to the ball.
Cross-court rally? They know.
Attack on the short ball? Already decided.
Passing shot? Already visualised.

The difference wasn’t in their forehands or backhands - it was in their decisions.

Once you start pre-committing to targets, errors drop, confidence grows, and suddenly you’re not just hitting... you’re competing!

If you want to level up, stop reacting and start planning. Your strokes don’t matter if your mind isn’t leading them.

Impact of a 90% U.S. / 10% International Roster Rule on College Tennis UTR Levels

Currently, the top Division I players have UTRs ranging from 11.5 to 13.5 for men and 8.5 to 10.5 for women.

If Division I rosters were limited to 10% international and 90% U.S. players, the top of the range would stay the same, but the overall level would drop. For men, the range would become 7.5 to 13.5, and for women, 5.5 to 10.5.

Division II would see a similar effect, with UTR levels dropping by about 3 points. The lowest levels would fall to around 5.5 for men and 3.5 for women. As a result, Division II would end up with lower UTRs than Division III.

The NAIA would not be affected, since its rosters are already about 90% U.S. players. #ncaatennis #nil #internationalcollege #collegetennis

PLAN B? MATHS CLASS 📊

Rafael Jódar told Overtime that if tennis hadn’t worked out, he’d have become a maths teacher. Or gone down the chess route.

No surprise for anyone who knows him: maths was his favourite subject at school and chess is still his go-to hobby off the court.
