POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve never been much of a poster. For a long time, social media just didn’t feel like a safe place. I’ve been protective of both my personal and professional life, and posting never seemed quite right. So I’ve mostly stayed away or observed from a safe distance.

For anyone I haven’t seen in a while, I grew up in Kentucky and studied in Michigan, Philadelphia, and New York before moving to Los Angeles in 2015 for my DMA at USC. What began as the next step in my education gradually became a life here.

Lately, though, I’ve been encouraged by people I respect who approach social media with generosity, curiosity, and empathy. They’ve reminded me that it’s possible to promote your work and engage with others with humility.

Composing and teaching are both built on connection. They depend on collaboration, conversation, and relationships that develop over time. I’ve always been comfortable sharing my music and talking about music in person. Sharing more of myself online has been harder.

Since coming to Los Angeles, I’ve joined the faculty at Occidental College, helped lead the composition program at Mostly Modern Festival in New York for seven seasons, and worked with many wonderful composers and performers. I’m grateful for all of it, especially the relationships that grew out of the work.

Apparently, getting staff lines tattooed on my arm came more naturally than posting on social media.

This summer, I’m going to share a little more: some updates, recent work I’m proud of, and a few of the people who are important to me.

Toney will make appearances too 🐈:) This is Instagram, after all. If we once worked together, studied together, made music together, or crossed paths somewhere along the way, please say hello. I’d love to hear what you’re doing and where life has taken you.
