🍁 A huge THANK YOU to all of our incredible CAOS teams for making Canadian Thanksgiving away from home feel a little more special. ❤️

We were so grateful to be welcomed by the students at NECO and Pacific for two amazing Thanksgiving celebrations filled with great food, great conversations, and even better company.

A special shoutout to the CAOS Presidents, Bayley, Reagan, Michelle, and Thomas, for all of the work that goes into creating these memorable events and bringing your classmates together. And thank you to Dr. Baillie and Saprina for joining on behalf of FYidoctors and helping us celebrate alongside the students

We’d also like to recognize Suragan for helping us plan our very first off-campus event with CAOS at SCO. From an evening of bowling with Dr. Hogan to the opportunity for faculty and leadership to connect, it was a fantastic experience and a great example of the strong relationships being built within the optometry community.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared stories, and made these events so memorable. We love being part of your journey and can’t wait to see what’s next! 💙

My next stop on this year’s #OrientationRoadshow was at @pacificuoptometry and it was SO MUCH FUN!

These incoming 1st-year students were so energetic and happy to be starting their optometry school journey, and I was thrilled to be a part of their first steps!

The students were asking some great questions and I got to hear from some of them about their stories and backgrounds - such a diverse group!

I LOVE MY JOB!!!

Opening Eyes returns!

Volunteers banded together at OSU, Corvallis in July to bring vision care to the hundreds of athletes participating in the 2026 Special Olympics summer games. Opening Eyes is part of the Healthy Athletes program and is dedicated to improving the vision and eye health of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

A team of 28 student volunteers from Pacific University's College of Optometry joined with 11 volunteer ODs, 4 opticians and 2 admin support members to provide free vision care and glasses to the participating athletes.

A total of 101 athletes were screened, with 26 identified as needing updated prescription glasses. Athletes who did not require prescription eyewear selected a complimentary pair of non-prescription sunglasses, ensuring everyone left with quality eye protection.

Thanks to many the sponsors that help make this service possible - including: Lion's Club International Foundation, Special Olympics of Oregon, Golisano Foundation, Safilo and Essilor Luxottica Foundation and the PUCO Community Outreach EyeVan.

>> Making a Difference! <<
The Pacific University College of Optometry (PUCO) Community Outreach Program, in collaboration with the Oregon Foundation for Vision Awareness (OFVA) and the Sheridan School District (SSD), delivered a full day of high impact, no cost vision care to K–12 students on June 5, 2026. Held in the Sheridan High School gym, the event brought essential eye care services directly to children identified through school screenings as needing further evaluation. SSD had previously identified approximately 120 students facing significant barriers to accessing timely eye care. These challenges included the absence of local providers who accept vision coverage, transportation limitations, and language barriers. By bringing the Mobile Vision Clinic onsite, partners removed these obstacles and ensured students received the care they needed. Rebecca Boris, BSN, RN, PCCN, who coordinated the event for the district, served as a passionate advocate for her community. She shared, “I slept like a baby last night. It was an emotional day and draining in some aspects. Students had gone years without an exam.” But the work was worth it. Kids that never had glasses, were able to see again. The clinic completed 35 comprehensive dilated exams, filled 23 prescriptions for free glasses, and issued 8 referrals for continuity of care, including one medical referral for cataracts. Of the 41 available appointment slots, 38 were booked, with only three no shows—a strong indicator of community engagement and coordination. The total gift in kind value of services provided exceeded $28K. SWEEP Optical and Changing Lives Through Lenses provided the eyewear. Thanks to all who gave time and care to this community challenged with access to care! This is how we do it - TOGETHER!

Meet the student!

This is Kyler, my husband! He’s the one in school. He doesn’t like me posting pictures of him (especially ones with his arms folded 😂), so please make sure you hype him up! Doesn’t he look good?? Anyway, he is a second year optometry student now and absolutely loves it! He is attending the same graduate school his dad (and my dad) went to over 30 years ago. How cool is that?! Not only is he loving school and excelling at it, he is also an amazing husband and father. He does everything he can to spend time with me and the boys and help out around the house. We are so grateful for him and all of his hard work to get to this point!

👓 Learning, laughter, and lots of practice.

Our optometry students spend countless hours building the clinical skills that will serve them throughout their careers. From mastering slit lamp techniques to developing confidence in patient care, every lab session is another step toward becoming a skilled clinician.

Because great learning happens when hard work and a little fun go hand in hand. ❤️🖤

Summer adventures > summer stress. 🌲✨ From study days to waterfall hikes at Silver Falls State Park, our optometry students know how to make the most of life in the Pacific Northwest.

With things a little slower in the summer, our students really take advantage of exploring all that the PNW has to offer! And we love getting photos from them to share! Have a great week! ❤️🖤
