South Asian Soundscape was born from a deep love for the music that has shaped my life- ghazals, Sufi poetry, Bangla songs, film melodies, and the many traditions that continue to travel across borders and generations.

At its heart, this show is an exploration of what becomes possible when these musical worlds meet one another in the same room. A celebration of the shared threads that run through the cultures of the South Asian subcontinent- poetry, longing, devotion, memory, joy, and the enduring desire to connect. Bringing together artists from different cities, backgrounds, and musical traditions, the evening was an invitation to gather, listen, and experience the power of music beyond borders.

My deepest thanks to our musicians, collaborators, sponsors, volunteers, and audience members for helping bring this vision to life. I have always believed that music is one of the purest expressions of love- and love knows no bounds. 🌹

From Bangladesh to Pakistan, India to the wider world, the music of the South Asian subcontinent has long traveled through poetry, memory, and song.

This May 24th, artists from Washington, DC, Brooklyn, Toronto, and Los Angeles come together for an evening of ghazal, Sufi kalaam, timeless film melodies, and contemporary fusion. Bringing together musicians shaped by different traditions and musical worlds, South Asian Soundscape explores the meeting point of classical influence and modern expression.

Featuring an extraordinary lineup of artists and musicians from across the global South Asian soundscape, this is an evening not to be missed. 🌹

Meet the ’26 Khayal Residency Cohort.

We’re excited to introduce the first group of participants in the Khayal Residency—a rare four-week intensive in New York City with @thesaamibrothersofficial and their father, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami. Now in its third iteration (’23 Lahore, ’25 NYC), this immersive program offers group training and optional one-on-one lessons in the fundamentals of voice culture—discovering your true singing voice—along with an introduction to a 700+ year-old raaga system in its original, healing microtonal temperament.

Jacob Collier’s Hideaway. From the moment we stepped off the train in Tarrytown, the trip became real. People carrying guitars and instruments strapped on backs, slightly lost and terribly excited. Arnav shared a cab with us, complete strangers no longer. Standing in line with amazing creatives from around the world, internal butterflies permeated our arrival at the transformed Tarrytown Estate. Jacob Collier was on campus y’all, for us. The lineup of faculty astounded me progressively throughout the week. Surrounded by geniuses of all sorts, we soaked and soaked until my eyes couldn’t hold it in anymore. It is impossibly to clearly articulate how directly I have been changed by the sheer impact of the hideaway, but these clips are a small offering of the future of musical creativity that awaits me and so many others.

I just had the craziest week filled with warmth, limitless inspiration, openness, connection, and creative fuel that’ll last me at least 200 years at @jacobcollier’s first hideaway music retreat hosted by @dreamcatcherevt 💛

My heart is full and I won’t say too too much but just wanted to share some fun captured moments from the past week that I want to remember for the rest of my life:

5. @nsuh and Barzi serenading me with sweet rnb soft vocals 🙂‍↕️🫧
6. @doddleoddle and me after I attended her life-changing masterclass on trusting and cultivating your inner artistic voice no matter what skills/talents/limitations you may have 🫶
7. being a part of @konzept.ninja’s exciting and mesmerizing recording project 👀🫡🏕️
8. getting to sing with THE @beccastevensbsb to service a song our class collectively made in her brilliant songwriting masterclass 🤯🙌🫶🥺
