Diptych above: Ana Carillo and Layqa Nuna Yawar

Ana’s “Puente” depicts one of Panama’s most emblematic icons representing the unification of Latin America; the Bridge symbolizes Panama’s ability to use creativity and collaboration to bring people and places together. In New Jersey, Laya Nuna Yawar created this mural with @dolo_foto and @poetjasminemans to document the collaborative power seen manifested in protests by the People; this power is reflected in the artists as they reflect and witness these historic moments as a guiding light towards a better tomorrow.

Carrying Freedom Forward: Juneteenth Symposium

Peace!
Last Saturday, Build More Unity was proud to join Legndz Only and the Breaking Bread Initiative, along with many community based partner organizations to hold our sixth annual Juneteenth Program: “Carrying Freedom Forward: Juneteenth Symposium”

This Juneteenth, we came together not just to remember freedom, but to ask what it requires of us today.

Through our Walk With Our Youth panels, presentations on art and community consciousness, Know Your Rights, and a discussion on political prisoners and international solidarity, we created space to learn from one another, deepen our understanding, and strengthen our commitment to our communities. We were reminded that the struggle for liberation does not end at our borders and that our freedom is bound up with the freedom of oppressed people everywhere.

Thank you to every panelist, presenter, vendor, volunteer, performer, organizer, and community member who helped make this symposium possible. Your presence, knowledge, and willingness to engage made this day what it was.

Build More Unity remains committed to creating spaces where our people can learn, ask questions, build relationships, organize, and grow together. This symposium is one step in that ongoing work, and we look forward to continuing to build with our community.

We thank:
Kismet of Kings, the National Alumni Association of the Black Panther Party, NJ for Falasteen, Anakbayan North Jersey, the Venceremos Brigade Local Committee, Spirit of Liberation Jersey City, Harvest Wing Healing, Shawnee Talks, The Connected Vine, Stelton Distro, Healing With Mel, ReSqueeze Juices, and PAC Studios for participating in our program.

Not pictured is @levelself who provided massages and reiki at affordable rates to those who attended the program.

**The work continues.**

All Power to the People. Free The Land.
Free Em All. On All Fronts. ❤️🖤💚

Simple Scenes

While not the most clear my goal was to capture this and make something out of nothing because it was hard not to pass this up.

A classic street photographers image and vision. Inspired by the greats. It’s amazing how this happens.

While it has distinct coloring and details it has a story of its own. Also until post I didn’t notice the hanging shoes walked right by.

Soon this will be covered up with a new structure I had to photograph one of my favorite buildings before the windows are lost in time
