Congratulations to Sami Kalombo for being named the @pacwestbc Athlete of the Week!

Kalombo was a threat for that needed to be marked all weekend on the Island.

His impact as a striker was evident, recording 3 goals in two games as he kept the VIU backs busy.

On Saturday, he jump started the Falcons offense by scoring in the 73' after capitalizing on a scramble in the 18-yard box, recording his first PACWEST goal.

On Sunday, Kalombo started things off again after making a run in the 25' and headed the ball into the net after a gorgeous cross from Falcons captain Taigo Shimada.

Kalombo then added another goal in the 29' showing off his speed and acceleration as he beat the Mariners defenders and VIU keeper to a gorgeous longb all set up from Charlie Atkinson. Kalombo made no mistake as he chipped the ball over the keepers head and tapped the ball into the net.

Congratulations, Sami!

YOUR 2026 LANGARA FALCONS 🦅⚽️🏀

I had a blast capturing my very first media day with @langarafalcons!

A lot of planning, preparation and hard work went into this one. I'm so happy to see it all come together.

Special thanks to the Athletics staff, Langara Photo Dept., and my incredible team, @bri_maps_visuals & @mmarimato for making it all happen!

More to come 📸

Welcome to the Mariners family, Luke Linder!

🏡Hometown: Nanaimo, BC
🎓School: Dover Bay / Western
🏀Position: Combo Guard
📏Height: 6’4”

The Linder name is a massive one in Nanaimo basketball and Nanaimo basketball fans should be hyped that Luke is set to bring his top-end offensive talents to his hometown collegiate team after spending a redshirt year with the Western Mustangs in USports.

As a high school senior, Luke was part of a powerhouse Dover Bay Dolphins program that earned a silver medal at the 2023 BC 3A provincial championship. He also earned a First Team All-Star spot as he led the tournament in scoring. Luke was also named MVP of the Island championship that year and the Vikes Christmas Classic tournament. His siblings have also starred—and continue to excel—at Dover Bay with brother Frank also moving to the postsecondary level with the UBC Thunderbirds.

Luke’s basketball pursuits have also seen him take the floor with the CTA West basketball academy and the NJCAA’s Murray State Aggies (Kentucky). As Luke’s journey comes full circle back to Nanaimo, we’re excited for him to pull on the VIU jersey and bring his dynamite offensive game to the Mariners!

Welcome to the Mariners family, Jaxon Foster!

🏡Hometown: Penticton, BC
🎓School: Penticton Secondary
🏐Position: Outside
📏Height: 6’3”

The Mariners are excited to add Jaxon, an outstanding athlete and outside hitter with the ability to finish rallies. He heads to the Island from the Okanagan and Penticton Secondary and will study Business Management at VIU.

Jaxon played high-level hockey (and was an assistant captain on his OHA U17 prep team) and volleyball concurrently with his volleyball club experience coming with the Penticton’s Volleytech Volleyball Club and the Kelowna Volleyball Club. An Oliver tournament MVP, he also started on the 19U Team BC volleyball squad at the North American Indigenous Games in 2023. We can’t wait for Jaxon to take his skills on the volleyball court to the next level at VIU!
