SKELETAL SPECTRE - Keeping the Cauldron Warm CD available in SELFMADEGOD webstore

With Keeping the Cauldron Warm, SKELETAL SPECTRE delivers a return steeped in putrid and nostalgic atmosphere.
The 7th full album fully embraces the traditions of 1990s death/doom. Behind this project is Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, MEGASCAVENGER, ECHELON...), here under the pseudonym “Behold the Pentagram.” He handles almost all the instruments, reinforcing the solitary and hermetic nature of the work. This approach gives the album a cohesive and deeply dark artistic vision. Musically, the influences are obvious and fully embraced, rooted in old-school heritage. The riffs are heavy, thick, and suffocating, driven by slow to mid-paced tempos. The overall atmosphere is funereal and oppressive, supported by cavernous vocals. Tracks like “The Morbid Winds” perfectly illustrate this crushing heaviness.
Other songs further strengthen the omnipresent macabre imagery. The deliberately archaic production recalls underground recordings from the 1990s.
The sound is raw and saturated, creating an almost claustrophobic feeling. However, the whole can sometimes feel monotonous, with tracks blending into one another.
Yet this uniformity also enhances the overall experience, conceived as an immersive ritual. In the end, it is a sincere and dark album, faithful to the genre’s roots despite some repetitiveness.

For fans of CELTIC FROST, HOODED MENACE, GRAVE, PAGANIZER & CATHEDRAL.

There are albums one does not listen to expecting revelations, but rather to find out whether a formula still has enough strength to break bones. 'As Mankind Rots', Paganizer’s fourteenth album, falls exactly into that category. At this point, Rogga Johansson and company do not need to explain their language too much: dry, heavy, frontal Death Metal with little interest in unnecessary ornaments. The question is not whether Paganizer are going to reinvent themselves, but whether that machinery can still sound necessary after so many years. And the answer, at least for a good part of this album, is yes.

What is interesting is that, although Paganizer come from Sweden, they do not limit themselves to the most typical Swedish Death Metal mold. This is not the most obvious HM-2 worship, nor that rotten melodic approach that many Swedish ban...
