My garden had a great summer, buzzing with bees and insects - but I wanted to give them additional support by installing a large insect hotel. It provides nesting sites and shelter for beneficial insects, and helping them find suitable places to get through colder, wetter months. 🐝🐞🐛

Why does this matter? Insects play essential roles in pollination, food webs and ecosystem health. By creating spaces where they can thrive, we contribute to SDG 15: Life on Land, which focuses on protecting biodiversity, and SDG 13: Climate Action, by taking practical steps to care for our natural environment. 🌍

Protecting our planet does not always require a grand gesture. By simply making room for the wildlife around us, we can turn our own gardens into small havens for biodiversity. 🤍🌍

Yesterday, I had the honour of returning to my old elementary school in Finnish Lapland as Miss International Finland.

Years ago, I was just a little girl sitting in those same classrooms, with a heart full of dreams, not knowing where life would take me. And yesterday, I got to stand in front of children who are now sitting where I once sat.

We talked about dreams, courage, kindness, and believing in yourself. I asked every child to write down their biggest dream on a little piece of paper. And I wrote down mine too: to become the next Miss International.

Not simply because I dream of wearing a crown, becoming famous, or being recognised, but because of what that crown could allow me to do for others. Because to me, the greatest thing about having a voice is being able to use it for those who deserve to be heard.

I dream of using the Miss International platform to take @strongerthanourstart beyond borders, reach more children, raise awareness about unequal opportunities, and turn that awareness into real action. Because I know what it’s like to grow up without the same opportunities as everyone else. And it breaks my heart knowing that somewhere, a child is giving up on their dreams because of circumstances they never chose.

That’s why I started Stronger Than Our Start. And through Miss International, I want to take this message even further. Because I don’t just want to tell children that their dreams matter. I want to help give them a real chance to make those dreams come true.

Yesterday, I looked at those little pieces of paper and saw so many dreams waiting for a chance. And I couldn’t help but think of the little girl I once was. If I could tell her one thing, it would be that her beginning was never going to be the end of her story. And that’s the message I want every child to hear. Your start is not your finish line ❤️

A few segments from my on-stage interview round at Miss International Netherlands. 🤍🌱

Japan has deeply shaped my perspective on our planet and climate action, with its cultural traditions offering incredible examples of living in harmony with nature. 🌿🇯🇵 I believe we can all learn from this perspective: that we are not separate from nature, but part of it, and that caring for our environment is inseparable from caring for one another. 🤍

Through my Creative Climate Initiative project, I use creativity as a framework to bring the SDG's to life, making sustainability accessible, engaging and personal.

My initiative connects SDGs 1, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17, bringing together themes such as education, equality, sustainable communities, responsible consumption, climate action, biodiversity and collaboration.

By bringing creativity, cultural exchange and the SDGs together, I contribute to a greener, more compassionate world where both people and our planet can thrive. 🇳🇱🇯🇵🤍

One month until the Miss International adventure begins! 🇳🇱🤍🇯🇵

These days, I look back at the little girl I once was, growing up alongside a chronically ill mother, and realise just how much my journey has shaped the woman I am today. Through some of my hardest moments, creativity became my superpower.

Today, I continue to use that same creativity to inspire others to help build a greener, more empathetic world through creative sustainability and the SDGs. 🌱🤍

As the countdown begins, I’m putting the final details in place, finishing my evening gown, national costume and other special creations. Every piece carries a little part of my story and reflects the values I will bring with me to Japan. 🪡

After five visits, Japan has become so much more than a place I love. It feels like coming home, and I can hardly put into words how excited I am to return — this time, representing the Netherlands on the Miss International stage. 🇳🇱🇯🇵

To my Miss International sisters, the Miss International organisation, and my beloved Japan: I will see you very soon! 🤍👑🌸

I’ve told you a lot about myself here in my own words, but this time I wanted you to get to know me through the words of the people who know me best. So I asked my friends and family to describe me.

These are the words I got: determined, warm-hearted, inspiring, sensitive, strong, brave, beautiful, independent, funny, kind, sunshine, empathetic, lively, outgoing, amazing and absolutely gorgeous 🤍

Reading these words honestly meant more to me than I can explain. I’m so grateful to have people around me who believe in me, support me and always encourage me to keep going after the things I dream of.

Having people who see you, believe in you and are proud of you is something I’ll never take for granted ❤️

Thrifting is about so much more than only clothing. It’s about discovering little pieces of history, culture and craftsmanship. 🇯🇵🤍

One of the things I love most about Japan is the artistry woven into its traditional objects. Finding pre-loved silk obi and sensu fans feels like discovering stories that have travelled through time — and getting the chance to save them and give them a place in my own story.

It connects to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by encouraging us to extend the life of existing items, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by helping preserve cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

When we explore the traditions of other cultures with curiosity, we create opportunities for mutual understanding and connection. I believe that kind of cultural exchange helps us build a greener, more empathetic world — one where different perspectives inspire creative solutions to shared challenges. 🌏🤍

My mission didn’t start when I became Miss International Netherlands. It started much earlier — at home, and during some of the hardest years of my childhood.

My mother is chronically ill. Since I was eight, I grew up alongside her year-long hospital stays and a lot of uncertainty. Along the way, I discovered creativity as a way to cope. Creating gave me a sense of possibility when life felt very limited.

Over time, I realised that creativity was so much more than a personal escape. It could help us connect with each other and create a greener, more empathetic world. 🌱

That became the heart of my mission for creative sustainability. These values have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up gardening, eating mostly plant-based, caring deeply for animals as well as rescuing them, looking after our resources, living with sustainable energy solutions such as solar panels, home batteries and an electric car - and so much more.

I believe sustainability becomes truly lasting when people enjoy taking action. When it feels creative, personal and meaningful, even the smallest step becomes something we truly want to repeat.

That is why my mission connects so closely with the SDGs — especially education, equality, responsible consumption, climate action, biodiversity and partnerships. SDGs 4, 5, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 & 17. 🌍

This journey now has a crown and a stage, but the values behind it have been with me all along.

I will use this opportunity to help others discover their own creativity and ability to make a change.

The Netherlands is globally renowned for its relationship with water. From flood protection and coastal engineering to innovative ways of managing rivers and rising waters, Dutch water expertise has helped communities around the world become more resilient. 🇳🇱🌎

As climate change accelerates sea-level rise and increases water-related risks and pollution, this knowledge is more relevant than ever. Our challenge is no longer only to protect ourselves from water, but to find creative ways to live in balance with it — and share that knowledge with a world facing the same issues. 🌊

At the heart of the Dutch Waterloopbos, engineers built concept models at scale, using experimentation to understand water dynamics and refine their designs.

Today, these models continue to educate us about Dutch water innovation, demonstrating how curiosity becomes knowledge, knowledge becomes innovation, and innovation travels far beyond its starting point.

That is creative sustainability to me: using creativity and knowledge to develop solutions, share them, and let their impact ripple outward.💧💙
