The real issue isn't the compliment—it's the reaction to it. We need to ask ourselves why some people are so uncomfortable hearing Black women spoken about positively.
Black women shouldn't have to earn basic respect. It should be the standard.

We need to stop the disrespect. @paintalkspodcast

Black men, it's time to stand up for Black women. Stop allowing us to be bad-mouthed and disrespected. Stand beside your mothers, sisters, daughters, aunties, partners and friends. Loyalty starts at home. Keep people like this OUT!!!!

And to my Black women: protect yourselves. Not everyone deserves access to your energy, your time or your peace. Keep your circle small. Build with people who genuinely value, respect and uplift you. The moment someone repeatedly disrespects you, believe them and remove your access from them. Don't keep making space for people who don't value you.

Respect isn't too much to ask—it's the minimum.

If seeing something on a screen is enough to change your sexuality, then perhaps the conversation is a little more complicated than “porn turns men gay.”

Discovering an attraction isn’t the same as creating one.

This Pride Month, instead of demonising LGBTQIA+ people, maybe ask why the mere possibility of being queer causes such a strong reaction in some people.

Questions aren’t dangerous. Curiosity isn’t dangerous. Other people’s sexuality isn’t dangerous.

Fear, stigma, and certainty without examination? That’s where things get interesting.
