Artist: Moses Bamba
Title: Face of Freedom
Medium: Steel and Rubber Mesh Net
Dimensions: 36 x 48 inches
Year: 2026

“Face of Freedom" explores the tension between confinement and emergence. Using steel and rubber mesh net as both surface and symbol, the work presents a transparent portrait that can be viewed from both sides, appearing through a barrier much like history itself.
The subject, evoking Nelson Mandela, is rendered in monochrome to strip away distraction and focus on resilience, dignity, and the quiet power of hope. The mesh becomes prison, memory, and veil all at once. Yet the face comes through, smiling and unbroken, visible whether you stand in front of it or behind it.
This piece continues my ongoing investigation into barriers and emergence, and how we redefine identity by finding humanity and freedom even within systems not designed for us. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations we did not plan for. In those moments we must learn to navigate through instead of giving in to despair.
In my new style of expression, I use the net as a metaphor for the unplanned situations we sometimes find ourselves in. The face that shows through the net means that in every difficult situation, we must look for a way out. As the saying goes, "Your face must show, and your shoe must shine."

Artist: Moses Bamba
Title: Voice of the People
Medium: Steel and Rubber Mesh Net
Dimensions: 3 x 3 Feet
Year: 2026

Voice of the People is a portrait of Fela Anikulapo Kuti rendered on steel and rubber mesh net. The work is transparent and can be viewed from both side.
Using the mesh as both surface and symbol, the portrait appears through a barrier. Fela is shown with arms raised in a gesture of victory and success. His mouth is closed, but his presence speaks. The net becomes prison, stage, and filter all at once. Yet the voice comes through, unbroken.
This piece continues my ongoing investigation into barriers and emergence. The mesh represents the systems that try to silence truth. The transparency insists that we cannot look away. Fela’s message was never one-sided. It was for the streets, for the people, for the world.
In my new style of expression, I use the net as a metaphor for the unplanned situations we sometimes find ourselves in. Even within constraints, the human spirit and the artist’s voice must show.
