Often we talk in the sessions about what makes a drawing to be completed. The danger to overdraw and ruin the fresh and spontaneous marks executed while drawing the model in the life drawing sessions. Also, when is the right time to stop drawing and not carry on just because still there is time until the model stops the pose? Some of us will consider our artwork finished when it is finished in the studio, not to loose that spontaneity. Others will finish their work at home to complete it. And obviously there are many that, rightly so, will bin the sketches, as they just come to draw for the first time, for fun, to relax, socialise or just as an exercise to improve their drawing skills. All valid.

Q U E S T I O N

We’re posting the artwork of one of our regulars, who also sells his work @ian_morris_art. The first piece was finished in class. The second is the same drawing but finished at home (same as the other two). Which one do you prefer ?

E X H I B I T I O N

Perhaps we are posting about this because we are preparing an exhibition of artwork produced in the sessions at @desfildesstudio in Ancoats in March 2027. Well asked everyone who’s attended the sessions to submit the drawings they feel more proud, either because their technique, originality and creativity or the theme.

Guys !

Start saving those artworks that you think could be part of the exhibition. Made in the past or in the sessions to come. There is some special sessions with amazing themes. Keep an eye 👁️

Photo dump of some of the lovely folks that came out to support me last night. There are a few I didn’t manage to snag a photo with but I did a good job of catching a lot of my friends. Amazed at the turnout- thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there and supporting me on this journey of creativity. Thanks to all the fabulous artists that joined us and my fourth wave co founders, Bethan and Mairi. #brightonart #brightonartists

With only five weeks to go before the opening of our group exhibition 'DIVINE' at @phoenix_artspace (Brighton) we wanted to introduce you to our six guest exhibitors! Next up we have Andy Smith (@paintsmithandy.)

Andy Smith

I explore iconography and its inherent power to make us think and act in ways that directly impact our personal and collective ideology. Words and images create our understanding of the world and our role in it. The digital paradigm that we are embedded into can serve us in ways that benefit our wellbeing and environment but I feel that it is increasingly being used in an impersonal way. I visually explore and challenge our reliance on technology by subverting traditional subjects that are conventionally revered.
