Ein Verwandter des Triceratops, den kaum jemand kennt! 🦖

Der Coahuilaceratops magnacuerna lebte in der späten Kreidezeit im heutigen Mexiko. Er wurde bis zu 7 Meter lang und rund 5 Tonnen schwer. Wie der Triceratops gehört er zu den Ceratopsidae, den gehörnten Dinosauriern.
Sein Markenzeichen: aussergewöhnlich lange Augenhörner, die seinen Schädel unverwechselbar machen.

Wer mehr von ihm und seinen Freunden sehen will, ist bei uns im Museum genau richtig.😊

Last Saturday was the ROARsome opening of the Rock Fossils on Tour exhibition at the Sauriermuseum Aathal 🦖🤘🏻

Since 2013, this exhibition has been bringing together two worlds: paleontology and rock music! 🎸
It features newly discovered fossils named after rock legends, combining science, dinosaurs and rock ’n’ roll in such a unique way.

What a night and what a fantastic atmosphere! 😮‍💨🙌🏼 It was an absolute blast, and if you get the chance to visit, DO IT! It’s so worth it 🔥

🦕 Lucy ist zurück im Labor. Und jetzt wird’s ernst.

150 Millionen Jahre lag sie im Gestein von Wyoming. Dann hat unser Team etwas entdeckt, das selbst Profis die Sprache verschlagen hat: der Schädel eines jungen Camarasaurus. Er gehört zu den vollständigsten weltweit.

Ein Experte der Freien Universität Berlin nennt den Fund “extrem selten”. Schädel von Jungtieren in dieser Grösse? Davon kennt man bisher genau einen.

Ihre Ausstellungszeit ist für den Moment vorbei. Aber die Arbeit geht erst richtig los:
💬 „Ich präpariere seit über 25 Jahren Dinosaurier – Lucy ist mein erster vollständiger Schädel. So selten ist diese Mona Lisa der Urzeit.“

Das Beste: Bei uns passiert das live vor deinen Augen. Unser Labor ist öffentlich, komm vorbei uns schau unserem Nils über die Schulter.

Back with two absolute Jurassic legends at @sauriermuseumaathal 🙌🏼

On the left: Big Al Two, the ultimate rockstar predator of the Jurassic 🦖 An Allosaurus jimmadseni with around 95% of his original bones still in place. At 7.6 m long and with more than 20 injuries, his skeleton tells a pretty wild story of fights, injuries, healing and survival.
•
And then there’s E.T., the “Dancing Queen” Camarasaurus! 🦕 You can find the complete original skeleton in the Panorama Hall, while the impressive skull is showcased in the Skull Gallery.

I’ll never get tired of looking at these fossils 💚They’re pieces of a world that existed 150 million years ago 🥹🦴

Steine im Bauch? Bei diesem Dino ganz normal. 🪨🦕

Das ist Psittacosaurus neimongoliensis, ein kleiner Pflanzenfresser, der vor rund 100 Millionen Jahren in Ostasien lebte.

Sein Name bedeutet «Papageienechse» und spielt auf seinen auffälligen schnabelartigen Schädel an. Unser Originalskelett ist gerade einmal rund 80 cm lang.

Besonders spannend sind die Steine in seiner Bauchregion. Diese sogenannten Gastrolithen halfen vermutlich dabei, die pflanzliche Nahrung im Verdauungstrakt zu zerkleinern. 🌿🪨

100 Millionen Jahre später liegen sie noch immer genau dort.
