Signed up for this race about a year ago, long before I had any idea what training would actually look like going into it.

Ran a marathon back in May and told myself I'd take it easy after. That mostly happened and speed wasn't part of my training for months. Race day kept getting closer, and with about 45 days left, I finally got back into real training.

1:32:42 @wrrccopenhagen26 Half Marathon 2026 🇩🇰

A 49 min. 10K a few weeks before the race wasn't exactly reassuring, so I kept the plan simple to go out around 4:29/km, stay in control, and adjust based on how the middle miles felt.

5K - 21:54
10K - 44:05
15K - 1:06:11
20K - 1:28:14

Felt good enough with 2K to go that I pushed the last stretch with 4:05/km for the final 1.1K.

Finished in 1:32:42, which was better than I expected walking into this one.

It wasn't a full training block or an ideal buildup. Still one of the more rewarding races I've had in a while.

The other big part of this trip was spending a few days with some amazing friends I hadn't seen in years. Good to finally catch up in person that made the whole trip.

Copenhagen Half - Done. What's next though?

Copenhagen Half. The most satisfying negative splits.

Plan: Start around 4:45/km, run by feel, but keep it sub-4:50 at any cost. Gels at 0, 7 and 14K.

Copenhagen delivered colourful houses, orchestra symphony, DJs and lights along the way, and a beautiful flat course. Windy yes, but I honestly had started with worse expectations.

Around 14K, HR was sitting in the mid-160s. After the gel, it further settled a few beats and suddenly 4:35/km felt like cruise control. Sub-100 went from distant hope to maybe.

Last 6K: pure racing. Needed a 4:15/km for the final 1.1K. Ran 4:14.

~40 sec slower than my February NDM PB, but with less mileage and more mobility + strength, I’ll prefer this version.

The learning: did I conserve too much for too late?
I’ll always take a fast negative split, but on a flat course, there’s probably a fine line between smart conservation and leaving too much on the table.

What’s your strategy for the first half of a HM? How much do you deliberately hold back?

@shanghai.marathon in 10 weeks. @nivi.fitrabbits let’s do this! Copenhagen Half marathon. Colourful houses, beautiful flat course.

Happy birthday hubby (@pamil8 )- my calm in all my chaos🧿💜

I spent so long looking for that little light, without really knowing what I was looking for. And then you happened, and the rest is history. 🧿

You bring me clarity when I overthink, ground me when I get carried away, and support every crazy little adventure from running goals to finding that balance between staying healthy and enjoying good food. 😂

Here’s to more runs, travels, food, laughter and life together. ❤️

So glad to have you in my life
