When I was pregnant with my ManCub, Riggle was just starting to learn the ins and outs of the backcountry ski scene here in our wild and rugged backyard Chugach Mountains. He spent countless days “earning his turns” with our best pal, Sean “Salty” Rollnick who dragged him up to the tippy tops of the same peaks we see from The Shanty today. When they got home after one particularly gorgeous and successful mission, Sean pulled me aside privately and told me that after their grueling climb, they’d finally reached their intended peak and were resting before the ski back down. Riggle was looking around at the incredible scenery and with tears in his eyes said, “Someday I want to do this with ‘that kid’.” Although we’ve taken H up Ragged Top starting when he was super little (6?), today was different. 16 ish years in the making for these moments. Daddy & Me Time in the Backcountry Backyard. ManCub scaling the peaks on his own power. The pair of them laughing and learning and loving it all. Riggle could not have been more impressed (& maybe a little intimidated 😉) by how easily and naturally ‘that kid’ crushed his climb up and shredded his way down. Today has been so very wonderful in so very many ways, but these two knuckleheads goofing around in the mountains and making Riggle’s dream come true might just be the icing on the super sweet cake of today. Thanks for indulging your DaddyO’s adventure crave @_henryrios_ ! Dadnabbit, I love my fellas! 💕😍💕😍

Nevermind the happy face, in the midst of a Shanty project we had to take down the board that protects the most valuable piece of real estate in this whole place...the H-TEC growth markers! Take a gander at that bottom mark, that’s how big my baby boy was sometime after we first moved up the road, off the grid & prolly more than a little off our rockers! He still hasn’t quite made it to “Pando-height”, but judging by the way that boy eats, it won’t be long! #shantylife #headlampliving #timeflies #imofficiallytheshortestinthefamily
