A couple of years ago I directed a short doc on Charles Bradley. It's rare you meet an artist whose work inspires you, and find them to be even more inspirational in person, but that was him. We spent the day traversing Brooklyn talking about his life, love, social injustice and change, the black experience in America, everything. After the shoot wrapped, we went out to dinner and kept talking. It was like spending time with family member you hadn't seen in a long time. Everyone on my crew walked away feeling that way, that was his magic.
It's rare, the person who can take their pain and joy, and put them into art to make the world a better place for the rest of us. And to have lived through the life he had, and to come out the other side with a fearlessness and audacious love and acceptance for all people is a reminder of what we can all be. He was the most pure artist I've ever met, and an inspiration to me then and always. #RIP #CharlesBradley #HeartachesAndPain

NYC 'Art of Ink' crew dogs. Thanks for putting up with my crazy schedules, long ass interviews and weird shot suggestions. At least @jaymaykay doesn't mess with lunch. I love you guys forever. #artofinkseason2 #setlife
