Everything is fragile – variations
Paola Bernardelli Studio exhibition at Guildhall Taphouse Studios (Level 2, Guildhall Taphouse, Entrance via Guildhall street)
Culture Night 18th September 6:00pm-9:00pm

This micro-exhibition by Paola Bernardelli consists of new variations on her ongoing project Everything is fragile. Floral still-lives reveal and magnify the process of decay, becoming a metaphor for human life. These works pay homage to the still-life genre embraced by Dutch and Flemish women painters during the 17th and 18th centuries. Considered a minor art at the time, still-life allowed women artists to bypass the rigid societal barriers that restricted them from practicing life drawing and figurative painting. Inhabiting the boundary between photography and video, Bernardelli’s works attempt to reimagine and reinterpret the traditional still-life.

Accessibility: Venue is wheelchair accessible.

A lovely afternoon in Derry, seeing Hanna Tuulikki’s @hanna_tuulikki Animale at Void Art Centre @Voidartcentre and taking part in Daniel Godínez Nivón’s @danielgodineznivon Lullaby for a Dreaming Wall workshop at The Playhouse.

Both experiences invite us to think differently about our relationship with the more-than-human world through sound, movement, plants, stones, memory and place. Above all, it reinforces our connections to each other and the world around us.

Great to catch up with other people including artists, curators and ideas that feel very close to my own practice.

📣 Two exhibition launches tomorrow evening: we will start at @derryprintworkshop with Mara Cavalli’s Memory Blocks, and then just round the corner our friends at @ccadld will be launching Christopher Steenson’s All I see is the present.

🍷 We look forward to welcoming you at both exhibitions!

⚠️ Please note that Derry Print Workshop is a busy work place packed with heavy printing presses, paper guillotines, and potentially harmful art materials. Whilst we have taken care to make the place as safe as possible, we recommend being aware of your surroundings. We suggest not bringing children to the opening night, however you are more than welcome to book a private viewing so that your children can be supervised effectively while still enjoying the exhibition.
🙏🏻 Thank you for your co-operation

Sometimes things just don't work out, so you take the time to tests inks and papers and teach yourself a bit more about the technique.

Following our recent partnership announcement, we’re excited to introduce the full cohort of artists joining us this year through the TAAS x Void Art Centre fellowship.

These ten artists bring a wide range of practices, perspectives, and approaches into the community, each contributing to the kind of dialogue, experimentation, and sustained exchange that this program is built to support.

Now that the dust has settled, it’s time for an introduction to our Studio Artists!

Paola Bernardelli is an Italian lens-based artist living in Derry, Northern Ireland. Her work is informed by the shifting meaning of ‘taking photographs’ in an image-saturated world and her practice stems from a background in photojournalism and documentation. Bernardelli experiments with research and production methodologies based on archival investigation paired with fieldwork research, focusing on exploring forgotten histories that slip through the fabric of history. Recently her practice has veered towards a more introspective approach, linking the personal to the collective and investigating personal accounts of alienation and displacement through history. Bernardelli holds a Master of Fine Art from Ulster University, Belfast, and has played an integral role in the arts practice in Northern Ireland since 2002. This involved both her artistic practice and her management and curation of Art Arcadia, an arts organisation she founded in 2016.

We’re honored to announce a new two-year partnership between TAAS and Void Art Centre to support ten artists through a year-long fellowship within our global community.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment between our organizations: to ensure artists have sustained access to dialogue, critical exchange, and the kinds of conversations that help a practice stay alive and evolving over time.

Over the coming year, these fellows will participate alongside the broader TAAS membership—joining visiting artist talks, crit clubs, workshops, and informal exchanges that span disciplines, geographies, and ways of working.

Please join us in welcoming the 2026 Void Art Centre Fellows:

Paola Bernardelli
Finbar Kelly
Sue Morris
Gwen Stevenson
Serena Rodgers
Niall McLaughlin
Áine Hill
Cara Gilliland
Fionulla Quinn
Matthew Wilson

We’re grateful to Void Art Centre for their partnership and support, and we look forward to the questions, perspectives, and energy these artists will bring into the shared space.

We are delighted to welcome @bt48james for a residency at @stcolumbshall
James’ residency started in Cork in January, when he spent one month with our friends @guesthouse_collective as part of the annual Art Arcadia residency partnership.
During this time, James’ practice shifted towards exploring maps and mapping as tools and as illusion: they suggests clarity and authority while reflecting omission and power. By fragmenting and reworking cartographic forms through drawing, print, and mixed media, he plans to question their neutrality and expose the narratives embedded within them.
We look forward to following his progress as he takes over this account for the next four weeks!
