⚜️PRAISE REVIEW⚜️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

(Find my full review on GR: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4983169861)

Channeling my inner secretary in honor of finishing this book 👩‍💻

Picking up this book, I was expecting a light, kinky work romance. What I got was so much more.

This was a book about regaining confidence, fitting in your own skin and reinventing yourself and your sexuality. And yes, it was also a kinky work romance. But it was also about the importance of family, of loving people unconditionally. About growing up when you’re in your twenties and not knowing where to go. I was so surprised about this book and I loved it.

Why it was 4 stars for me and not 5: I sometimes felt annoyed with the lack of communication, I really hate that shit. And also: I’m done with people just randomly calling grown women petite and tiny handed. That’s over, it’s cancelled.

It wasn’t the spiciest book I read, but the scenes were written very sensual, it was easy flowing and I ended up wanting more. Hence, I will most definitely read the rest of the series.

Did you read this book? What did you think?

It is the last post of this year, and what better day to post it. It’s 31’st Dec 2020.
🎊🎈
So the year 2020 is finally ending. We have suffered a lot. The pandemic spread, the lockdowns, that too almost for the whole year. At the same time, this year has also taught us to care about the various things that we had earlier taken for granted.
🎉🎈
Due to the Pandemic, we realized the importance of nature, the environment, love, family, relations, and most importantly, our health, the life lesson that we should continue to follow in the coming year also.
🎊🎈
Since we were at home most of the time, many of us started reading books to deviate our minds from the pandemic and get lost among the pages of the books. Through the pages of the books, one can travel to various places, places that fascinate and are magical, sometimes far better compared to the real world.
🎉🎈
I was also one of those who started reading more during the lockdown phase. Here are my top 10 picks from the year 2020, in no particular order.

Life is the most interesting thing that will ever happen to you. Celebrate every day to the fullest!
Let’s make our New Year resolution to be there for each other and help fellow human beings in need even if we don’t know them personally. So come let’s spread some kindness and cheer!
🎊Happy New Year 2021.🎊

She must be a wildflower 🌻 Alice in Wonderland was one of my top Disney movies as a kid so it’s not surprising that when I see a retelling of it i’m instantly intrigued. This one by Christina Henry was marketed as a “dark” retelling however that did not prepare me for the triggering content that this book contained. ⛔️ Stop reading the review here if you don’t want spoilers / want to look up triggering content before reading.
.
.
This book mentions rape/sexual assault at every chance it gets and unfortunately it doesn’t do so to make a social commentary or explore the ethical/moral impacts, its done solely to fuel the “plot” if you can even call this story a plot 🤣 It was definitely not my cup of tea (excuse the pun) and I don’t believe that a plot solely focused on rape is much of a plot at all. I don’t normally post negative reviews but honestly I think it needed to be said.

In the modern world, when we see people with happy faces on social media or a party or occasion, we immediately assume that they all have an unproblematic life, and all is well. But the fact is, life is not that bright and that simple. Everybody in this world faces problems, pain, heartbreak, and failure. Many times the person with the most shining smile is going through the most painful phase of his/her life; all he/she needs is a ray of positivity, a hope that everything is going to be alright.
🎈✨
The Balloon Girl is not just a character but is an emotion, maybe the hidden feeling of the author that she has very innocently depicted here in her book. The role that “The Balloon Girl” played can be executed by me, or by you, and the only thing we have to do is to look around.
✨🎈
I picked this book a few days back randomly as its title attracted me, very fascinating “THE BALLOON GIRL” Thought to give it a try, and let me tell you it was worth it. @sfr.world
The Balloon girl by Syeda Faiza Rasheed is such a beautiful book to read. I loved the concept, it is unique, and the title perfectly fits the storyline.
🎈✨
Although the book consists of different short stories, they are all linked through a line of a single thread. Not just the tales are beautiful, also the message behind the stories; what the author is trying to portray is alluring. The stories are very captivating and spellbinding. From the very first tale to the last one, this book is unputdownable. I must say the vibe throughout the book is pleasing.
✨🎈
Simply-written with a love-filled heart, this book will make you smile, make you cry, make you think, and importantly it will make you spread love and positivity all around. The book takes you to a delightful journey that is full of emotions. Depicting relationships of all kinds, their bonds, their dreams, “The Balloon girl” is a heart-warming book. I recommend this to all.

“I want my heart back. I have missed you so much. I have missed the kindness that I had for people who weren’t kind to me, I miss the laughter, I miss the cries, and I miss the love. Life was simpler then, I was happier then. I miss that version of me, Heart. I miss me!”❤️ @paperbackspublishinghouse
The Lockdown stories by Paperback Publishing House is a collection of short stories.
Written by a group of writers who I must say, are extremely talented, as they have done a great job in depicting such real life characters that too with simplicity, without adding any extra dramatic angle.
The stories are beautifully written, messages in it, are strong and reflects the face of our society very well.
During this harsh phase of our lives when we are dealing with the pandemic, these lockdown stories are a perfect read.
I have always been a fan of short stories so this one caught my attention and the title itself attracts you to read it.
Highly recommend this to all.

Why can't we grieve through grief?

#musing

Some recent events led me to think; sometimes the best way to overcome a loss is to grieve through it.
And a poem sprung out of me-
Can’t fathom why?
Why does everyone keep showing a thumbs up and say, “Don’t cry”?
Why doesn’t anyone offer a shoulder and say, “it’s ok not to be ok, it’s ok to cry till your eyes go dry.”? Why is it so important to move on; stepping on the broken pieces of our shattered dreams?
Why are we expected to gulp it down bravely while at the top of our voices we want to scream?
Why are the victories always celebrated and the losses never grieved?
Why do we keep forgetting we’re humans, we were meant to feel the hurt, these pains were meant to be lived?

City of Ghosts, by Victoria Schwab
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
-
Confession: I hate the #horror genre. It’s a hate born out of the fact that my imagination is overactive. Usually, after I read/watch some horror, I spend hours thinking there’s a ghost lurking in the shadows. I can bring myself to read books that have ghosts and magic, but not books that have only magic. What’s the logic, you ask? Hehe, there’s no magic in the real world, so there are no ghosts also. But throw in ghosts into a mundane world and I freak the fuck out for several days.

Confession no 2: And yet, I loved this book. Probably because this mostly falls into the middle-grade genre.
-
#Cityofghosts is about a 12-year-old girl Cassidy Blake, who can see ghosts, and her best friend, who is a ghost. Her parents are kind of a ghost-hunting team and have several books. They’ve also just signed up for a TV show, and travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, to shoot this. In this city full of a violent history and several ghosts, Cassidy does things that fill up the rest of the book.

It’s a ridiculously easy read and also a bit cute, despite having ghosts et al. Also loved the frequent call-references to Harry Potter. Cass identifies as a Gryffindor, and there’s a scene where this other character, who I suspect is a Slytherin, puts Gryffindors down. This book has lots of charm and is also a bit predictable. But remember this is a middle grade book, and I think you’ll like it. The second books is already out, which I will read soon. And I think it’s also time to check out other books by Schwab.
-
#QOTD1: What is your least favourite genre of books to read? My answer is obvious, I presume.
-
#QOTD2: Which picture is better? I couldn't decide
