I came out in 1982 while I was still in high school in Bacolod City, Philippines.
Looking back, I realize how incredibly fortunate I was to have a mother and sisters who loved, supported, and accepted me for who I was. My father took a while but he eventually got on board. 🙌🏽
Their acceptance gave me the confidence to live authentically and pursue my dreams without fear or hesitation. 🤗
That confidence carried me all the way to New York, where I built a career, found my tribe with a close-knit group of friends who became my second family, and eventually met the man who would become my husband.
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that my life would unfold this way. Growing up, I simply hoped to be belong and be accepted. 🙏🏽
Instead, I found love, friendship, purpose, and a life beyond anything I could have envisioned.
Pride, for me, is a celebration of authenticity. It’s a reminder that living truthfully is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. It is also a tribute to those who came before us, those who fought for visibility, equality, and the freedom to live openly.
I am grateful. Grateful for my family, my friends, my husband, and the journey that brought me here.
I live out and proud not just this month, but every day of my life. / 🥰🏳️‍🌈🙌🏽
