Just kicked off our family roadtrip from Joburg to eMdloti in this Ford Tourneo.

Strange thing, this - it’s clearly got commercial DNA with that high driving position, but somehow works brilliantly as a family hauler. Eight seats, more than enough space for luggage, and enough storage bins to lose a toddler in. The 2.0L turbo diesel engine delivers decent punch when needed, though that 9.5L/100km consumption is thirstier than I’d hoped - our fuel light drama halfway at Montrose ended with a R1300 refill bill that stung a bit.

The fabric seats might seem basic but they’re surprisingly durable and easy to wipe clean when kids inevitably spill something (which happened approximately 17 minutes into our journey).

The tech is properly sorted though - big screen, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, and sensors everywhere to stop you embarrassing yourself in parking lots. Perfect roadtrip companion? Almost, but it’s hard to shake that “van with windows” feel.

We’ve welcomed this Volkswagen ID.4 Pro into the driveway for what’s promising to be an intriguing 3 months.

I’ve been skeptical about VW’s electric ambitions, especially in our climate, but that’s exactly why it’s here. Daily Joburg commutes, weekend mall runs, and those 400km trips to the Free State should give us the full picture.

Quite curious how it’ll handle those spontaneous long-distance drives - you know, the ones where range anxiety might actually mean something.

First impressions? The tech is very... different. But it has grown on me. Proper daily life test, this one.

The inaugural Range Rover House experience in Africa started welcoming guests this past week and it’s such a dream.

The attention to detail is impeccable and the experience zones are incredible. Everything we saw, touched, smelt and tasted is Range Rover curated.

We also got to see the limited run (one of seven) Range Rover Onyx Edition - specially commissioned for Southern Africa. 😍

See our full video on this experience on YT. #RangeRoverHouse #RangeRoverHouseCapeTown
