Gin Team wins the SRS Piedrahíta
Gin Team takes the team victory at the SRS in Piedrahíta, with Carlos Lopes winning the overall classification and Martina Centa taking the women’s title.

The Gin Team secured another team victory in the Sports Racing Series, this time at the SRS Piedrahíta in Spain.
Held from 22 to 29 August, the event was originally scheduled for seven tasks, with three valid tasks eventually completed, due to difficult weather conditions.

Carlos Lopes finished the competition at the top of the overall classification, while Martina Centa claimed the win in the women’s classification. Both pilots flew the GTO 3.

With another team victory and wins in both the overall and women’s classifications, the SRS Piedrahíta adds another team success to Gin’s 2026 competition season.

Congratulations to all the pilots for the good performance!

Provisional Results – Task 6 🏁

What a way to finish the final task of the SRS Ozone Edition 2026. On an 81.7 km task that demanded patience, smart decisions and careful climbs, Luke Nicol delivered a incredible performance, reaching goal in 2:35:40 to take the provisional Task 6 victory. 👏

Behind him, Nick Lloyd and Víctor Aguilera Lozano completed the provisional podium after another day of tactical racing across the French Alps.

A special mention also goes to Sarah Zimmermann, who spent much of the day among the leading women before landing after 47.7 km. Throughout the race she looked set for another remarkable result, reminding us just how quickly fortunes can change in cross-country flying.

From the spectacular views of La Tournette and Mont Blanc to the final glide toward the finish line, today’s race perfectly captured what makes distance flying so special: strategy, dedication, and unforgettable scenery.

⚠️ These are provisional Task 6 results. Official overall standings will be confirmed after score validation.

SRS Tolmin - Gin team daily report

Task 2 weather was great for racing. An easy start with quick climbs to cloud base and efforts to stay high while avoiding cloud. Lots of climbing up the sides of clouds but hard to see where all the wings were. We all set off to the start gate and it became obvious there were 2 groups. Luke leading on the back ridge and the main group heading for the Tolmin ridge. climbs were stronger higher up, and this was the theme of the day. We all ended up on the Krn ridge with really strong lift and no turning required. An easy glide to the Northern turn point with the leaders pressing hard after a short climb to the Stol ridge. Options here split the group with 2 wpts out in front. Luke and Aurelius tagged both at the same time while others returned to the Stol for a top up. The leaders were punished with weak climbs down low and Luke managed to get away but Matthijs didn’t and landed out. Mike and Tom stayed high on the Stol and with their longer track we all met up at the end of the Stol ready for the next decision. Some went along the South ridge. Luke lead the group back to the Tolmin ridge but didn’t find the strong climbs they expected. Mike and Tom got higher on the Stol and then went direct across the valley. tagged the turn point then we all ended up low on the Tolmin ridge. Found lift and back to takeoff. Mike and Tom stayed back at got really high to arrive at Takeoff in good shape, Again, staying high was the key, and once the southerly point was tagged there was one more challenge. A turnpoint North of the Tolmin ridge which was high on the hill and needed 1,000M to tag it directly. the leaders wennt low and had to work really hard to get the height, Aurelius was in the lead at this point but bombed with most of the leading gaggle just short of goal. Mike climbed high and tagged it late, which allowed him to overtake the lower group. A punishing day where getting low was unforgiving. Team “On the Tonic” consisting of GTO³ pilots won the day. Team Gin 2 had a solid performance maintaining a healthy lead for the season standings. Today we go to Lijac for task 3!

Great Results at the First SRS of 2026, SRS Gin Edition, Roldanillo

The first @sportsclassracingseries competition of the 2026 season has just finished, marking a great start for the Gin Gliders Team!

From January 9th to 16th, the SRS Gin Edition 2026 took place in Roldanillo, Colombia. The weather conditions were challenging throughout the week, with frequent rain and high humidity. Out of the 7 planned tasks, only 4 could be flown, and all of them were technically demanding due to the heavy, humid air.

The two Gin teams registered for the championship both made it onto the podium: one team finished 1st overall, and the second team secured 3rd place.

Our team pilots also delivered outstanding individual performances, with @carloslopes999 (Carlos Lopes) finishing 2nd overall, followed closely by @openmind_ch (Simon Steiner) in 3rd place. In addition, 5 Gin GTO 3 gliders finished in the Top 10, proving once again the competitiveness and performance of our sports competition wing.

To top it all off, our team pilot @magdalenajanaway (Magdalena Janaway) won the women’s category, adding another victory for Gin at this first SRS of the season.

A big congratulations to all our pilots for their hard work, skill, and dedication in such demanding conditions. We’re proud to start the 2026 season with such strong results, and we’re excited for what’s coming next!

Task 5: Luke, Riley and team Gin win again!

What a day! The start was on the opposite side of the valley from launch making it a very technical and beautiful beginning to the race - this place is stunning!
It was a bit tricky to get high, but as soon as the race started they headed out towards turnpoint 1.

Andreas ‘Pepe’ Malecki, Miguel Mondragon and Aurelijus Andreliunas went straight to the Crocodile ridge whilst the other leaders went to a cloud on the foothills. The ridge worked better and those three broke away.

Near turnpoint 2 (the furthest away turnpoint) the lift was broken and there were no strong thermals. This allowed others to catch up and everyone took slow climbs at the turnpoint.

They had to scratch around to get back to the good thermals but then it was about 17km full bar racing to the Ess and goal.

Luke Nicol won the day with Pepe in second place and Matthijs Groeneveld 3rd over the line. Therefore, team Gin won the day again.

Riley FERRE won her fifth ladies’ task.
Well done to the 95 pilots who made goal.

Aurelijus Andreliunas is a paragliding enthusiast who comes from the northern part of the tiny flatland country of Lithuania.

He told the news hounds at srs.live: “I have been flying now for 19 wonderful years. I love the SRS community and spirit.”

He loves the format, the event, the organisation and the people in the SRS.

Note from the Commentary team: Well, I think that’s you just earnt yourself 100 extra bonus points Aurelijus!
In a previous life Aurelijus used to box, then competed in badminton and pool.

In photo 1 Aurelijus looks as if he is one of the actors in the 1980s film Ghost Busters. Yes, this is indeed Aurelijus at work - installing solar panels on roofs
Aurelijus was weighed down with a very heavy looking gold medal in 2024 when he became Lithuanian precise landing champion.

Last year he also took part in the European paragliding championships where he flew a lot with another famous face from the SRS, none other than our very own first lady, Magdalena Janaway.

Aurelijus fled wintertime in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius and flat land flying to come to Colombia to fly with both Brett and Mags at the Copas de Americas which is just coming to an end.

Aurelijus is looking forward to doing well in this competition, despite having spent almost two months in bed with a fever before coming here.
