Something I see so often in my client work and honestly in my own life is that whenever we feel that sudden wave of panic over something tiny, we’re rarely reacting from our current age.

It’s usually the little version of us grabbing the wheel, trying so hard to protect us the only way they knew how to back then.

If you caught yourself feeling really small, getting defensive, or working overtime to keep the peace... take a breath. You aren’t doing anything wrong. That part of you was just doing its best with what it had.

Give yourself a little tenderness You’re allowed to let go.

Some Fish Species That Rarely Contain Parasites
One of the least enjoyable moments for any spearfisher is finding parasites while cleaning a fish. They are usually long, white worms that are more commonly found in larger fish.
Although many people find them unpleasant, experienced spearfishers simply remove the affected area and keep the rest of the meat, which is typically in excellent condition.
Below are just a few of the species that generally do not tend to carry these types of parasites. This is not a complete list, but rather a small selection based on the experience and observations of seasoned spearfishers and instructors.

Algunas especies de peces que rara vez presentan parásitos
Uno de los momentos menos agradables para cualquier pescador submarino es encontrar parásitos al limpiar un pez. Generalmente se trata de gusanos blancos y alargados que aparecen con mayor frecuencia en peces de gran tamaño.
Aunque a muchas personas les resultan desagradables, los pescadores con experiencia simplemente retiran la parte afectada y aprovechan el resto de la carne, que por lo general se encuentra en excelentes condiciones.

Last day of this epic adventure.

It’s one thing to watch it on video, and something completely different to actually be there, feeling the majesty of the ocean surrounded by a massive school of hammerhead sharks. This moment will remain forever in the memories of this amazing group of freedivers who joined us from Miami to the Galápagos Islands.

There’s not much more to say… the video speaks for itself.

Segunda parte del Curso Básico FGC enfocado en la pesca submarina. Durante esta jornada, los participantes recibieron clases sobre el manejo seguro del arpón, reconocimiento de especies permitidas por fauna silvestre del estado de Florida y sus tallas mínimas, así como identificación de especies protegidas que no deben capturarse.

También se hizo énfasis en la importancia de proteger los corales, conocer las zonas donde sí está permitida la pesca y respetar áreas protegidas como parques nacionales y santuarios marinos donde el spearfishing está prohibido.

En FGC Miami es fundamental educar a los nuevos pescadores submarinos sobre cómo pescar de forma responsable y proteger el medio marino. Después de ver por años a personas capturando especies sin respetar las leyes, desarrollamos este curso para crear nuevas generaciones de spearfishers conscientes, éticos y comprometidos con la conservación.

Second part of the FGC Basic Course focused on spearfishing. During this session, participants received training on safe spear handling, identification of legal species regulated by Florida wildlife authorities and their minimum sizes, as well as protected species that must not be harvested.

We also emphasized the importance of protecting coral reefs, understanding approved fishing areas, and respecting protected zones such as national parks and marine sanctuaries where spearfishing is not allowed.

At FGC Miami, educating new spearfishers on responsible fishing and marine conservation is a priority. After years of seeing people harvest species without respecting regulations, we created this course to build new generations of conscious, ethical spearfishers committed to protecting our oceans.

Curso FGC enfocado al Spearfishing 🐠

Después de muchos años dictando cursos de freediving en Miami, entendí algo clave:
la gran mayoría de quienes se forman en apnea lo hacen con un objetivo claro… la pesca submarina.

Por eso estructuré este curso de spearfishing, con el apoyo y la colaboración de mi novia, Sandra Orejuela, quien se especializó en todas las leyes y regulaciones necesarias para cumplir con la normativa de pesca submarina en los Estados Unidos, específicamente en el estado de Florida, y con el apoyo de Federico, próximamente Instructor FGC Internacional.

En este curso aprenderás:

El manejo seguro y responsable del fusil de pesca submarina

Las tallas mínimas permitidas y las especies protegidas

Las reglas y límites legales vigentes para la pesca submarina en Florida

La forma correcta de respirar, para mantenerte a salvo, realizar largas esperas en el fondo y descender a profundidades importantes

Prácticas de pesca ética y sostenible, capturando solo lo que realmente se va a consumir

Además, el programa pone un fuerte énfasis en la protección del medio marino:
cuidar los corales, respetar los arrecifes y entender que un buen pescador submarino no solo pesca, conserva.

Porque solo quien protege su entorno acuático garantiza que las futuras generaciones puedan seguir disfrutando del mar y de sus especies. 🐠🦑🐟🦞🦀 #spearfishing #freediving #pescasub
