I spent years living in the Bay Area, where getting out into nature usually meant planning for it. Drive somewhere. Sit in traffic. Find parking. Make a whole day out of it. Now I live in Paradise, California, and views like this are just part of everyday life. I can be down in Chico in about 20 minutes, but up here, life feels a little more removed. There’s more open space, mountain views, lakes and trails nearby, and some pretty incredible sunsets over the valley. That was a big part of what I wanted when I moved to far Northern California. I didn’t want to be completely disconnected from everything. I just wanted a little more room between me and everything else. If you’ve ever thought about leaving the Bay Area for a smaller Northern California town, Paradise might not be on your radar yet. Maybe it should be. πŸ“ Paradise, California | Butte County #ParadiseCalifornia #MovingToParadiseCA #NorthernCaliforniaLiving #ButteCounty

As a teenager, I dreamed of the day that I would be out on my own, and that my weekends didn't consist of driving three hours each direction to get to the river from the East Bay. I talked about it so much that when my best friend of 30 years came to visit last year, she said, we finally made it, you live in the mountains. That's something I don't take for granted! Living in the Bay Area, meant sitting in an hour and a half of traffic to get exactly 23 miles, each direction. It meant spending more time in the car then at your destination. And now, 10 minutes in either direction from my house, I have not one, but two lakes. And within 30 minutes have not one, but two rivers. I'm an outside girl at heart and feel so blessed to be able to be living my childhood dream. πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ€πŸŒ„ #getoutside #explore #buttecounty #paradise #home

Paradise Lake is 10 minutes from my house, and this is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I talk about why I love living here. It’s quiet, beautiful, mostly shaded and one of my favorite places to get outside without having to make an entire day out of it. A few things to know before you go: 🌲 Open 5 AM to sunset 🌲 Closed Wednesdays for maintenance 🌲 $5 parking fee per vehicle, cash only 🌲 $10 per watercraft for boat launch/water access 🌲 No swimming or dogs 🌲 The lake is part of Paradise’s drinking water supply 🌲 The trail is mostly flat and shaded 🌲 Plenty of wildlife along the way And one VERY important hiking detail: the trail does not make a complete loop around the lake. If you hike the entire trail in, you’re hiking the entire trail back out. It’s about 4.5 miles one way, making the full trip roughly 9 miles. But even if you only walk a portion of it, it’s such a beautiful place to spend a morning. And the fact that I can be here in 10 minutes from my house still feels pretty special. This is the side of living in Paradise and Northern California that I want to share more of. Save this one for your next Paradise adventure, and send it to someone who needs a new walking spot. 🌲 #ParadiseCA #NorthernCalifornia #ButteCounty #ExploreCalifornia #CaliforniaHiking
