Iron casting at GSU is BACK! Tell your friends! We had our first pour of the year in February and had 13 students on the pour floor for the first time! They rocked it! Thank you to the @slossmetalarts crew for joining us! 10 of these students will be traveling to the National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art & Practices conferences @nccciap next week! (We also had Melba Williams, a Professor of Practice in the School of Film, Media & Theatre documenting it all, so stay tuned for a sick documentary of it all! Thanks Melba!)

This entire week was such a blast! I had the absolute pleasure of teaching a cyanotype demo at the spray pond @slossmetalarts. Cyanotypes originated in 1842 and utilize two ferric based emulsions. It was wonderful to bring my love of photography to the space that helped me fall in love with cast iron. We made about 85-100 prints and I adore seeing students faces light up when they see their cyanotype develop 🥰

Y’all! I’ve been reflecting on how fortunate I was this last April to be an artist-in-residence @slossmetalarts during @nccciap. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to learn from so many metal artists and create new friendships. The exhibitions were truly inspiring, and I love seeing what you all are working on now!

I learned so much about running a cyanotype demonstration, furnace tending, mold making, metallurgy, and what to do when things go wrong. Thank you all for such a great conference, and I can’t wait to do it again in 2025!
