The set for last year’s production of Crumbs from the Table of Joy was made of images wallpapered to the floor and hanging flats and I have to shoutout the beautiful lighting design by @rjcraig23 and directing by @paristheplaywright #theatre #crumbsfromthetableofjoy #artbywarsh

The University Theatre is preparing for a new season. First up: The Labyrinth of Desire by Caridad Svich opening in mid-October.

Meet the director: Paris Crayton III is an award-winning playwright, actor, and director. He was one of ArtsATL "30 under 30" and Atlanta Journal Constitution's "Artist to watch." Creative Loafing named him 2014's "Best Local Playwright" Critics have called him "a powerful dramatist" and praised him as "One of the most important playwrights of our time." His directing credits include Crumbs from the Table of Joy at DeSales University, Chasing Gods at Davidson College, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at Pure Artistry, and Mama Bear at Out of Box Theatre, among others. Visit www.ParisCrayton3.com for more info about our guest director.

Our patrons may remember that we produced Paris' play Chasing Gods in the summer of 2019. It's so great to have him in residency with us again! Paris' participation in The Labyrinth of Desire is made possible in part by the LeWan Alexander Spiritship Fund. The fund honors alumnus and former faculty member LeWan Alexander and supports our Department’s guests artist program, which celebrates and extends the kinds of contributions LeWan made to and through theatre. The guest artist program objective strives to provide role models who will enhance the involvement of KU students of color in our shows. Of note, KU alumna Gabrielle Smith has signed on as assistant director for this show! So excited to see their work when the curtain goes up on The Labyrinth of Desire. Best to the Labyrinth company through the six-week rehearsal process! ❤️💙
